So...50 miles out and 50 back?
Yeah, ICE trucks will be around a while.
Depends on the kind of camping you’re doing. At a campground with hookups you just charge the truck at your site. No hookups or a charger nearby then yea, you’d have to keep the reserve charge to make it home. Definitely not a long distance tow machine yet even though it is a much better tow vehicle in other regards.

I can't tow my horse race trailer halfway across the country without having to unhitch therefore EVs will never work for anyone who needs to tow anything.

Once you tow with the Rivian you won’t want to go back. The only reason I’d go back to my diesel is for trips over 100 miles.
I believe that is going to be the case. We will be trying it out on the way back from Normal. We are going to bring the Airstream up there with the Silverado. We will get a campground in the area. We will get the R1T and spend about a week or so up there trying her out and breaking her in. When we are ready, the Airstream will be hooked to the R1T for the trip back to Florida. SuEllyn will tow the Airstream with the R1T and I will follow her in the Silverado. This will give us an opportunity to get real world range figures. We will also get to see if the charging regimin works with our travel style.

Well I'm here to tell you that comments like those make other people feel as though you are targeting them and are unfair stereotypes. That's just like those who say the N word doesn't apply to THOSE Blacks because they are "good" ones. Saying that phrase would be extremely offensive to ALL Black people because you're using a very hurtful stereotype.

Unfair characterizations of Bubba and backwards have been used to slander ALL rural and conservative people by the left for many years. Stop using hateful and bigoted terminology that has connotations of applying to all of these people if you don't want people to think that's who you're talking about. IF you are actually as concerned about the widespread adoption of EVs as people such as yourself claim to be maybe spend less time worried about "bubba" and more time worried about what sort of atmosphere you're creating here for others that may be new to EVs and might be conservative or rural.

How does divisive commentary and bigoted words look to people like that? I'll answer that question for you, it looks like shit and it drives away a lot of people. That seems awfully contrary to your stated goal of widespread EV adoption.
So if I used “Christopher” instead of “Bubba” it‘s better? You’ll note that my original comment had no association at all with race, ethnicity, religion or geography.

Yes, I did mention far right politics. I have yet to see a tree hugger roll coal, feel free to prove me otherwise and I’ll gladly retract that statement. As I have mentioned before, I’m a Republican, so I‘m not making a left degrading the right comment.

If I’m slandering rural people, then I’m slandering myself, lol! I live on my 26 acre farm raising produce in the summer and have a small apple orchard. The township has more livestock and deer than residents. Last week, my Mennonite tenant farmer spread chicken manure on the fields he leases from me. My dog goes out and eats it. A couple of weeks ago, she brought home a deer leg. I‘m rural and proud of it.

It seems that you are connecting “Bubba” with a particular geographic, ethnic, or other specific regional connotation? I’m not. In my part of the world, Bubba can be from Maine, Oregon, Pennsylvania or Florida. He/she can drive a pickup, SUV or a Ford Escort. Bubba can be Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, or Communist. They can live in a townhouse, suburban development, or cabin in the woods. What distinguishes “Christopher” is how he treats others, portrays a devil may care attitude, typically having total disregard for anyone else’s values, and willing to make a public point of it by insulting someone to make him/herself feel stronger. Bonus points for window stickers and/or flags denigrating other people or groups.

Long distance EV towing ain't happening for some years. I have lusted after a Raptor for years but truck would be too impractical and wasteful for what I need. It would be a blast if living close to open trails though.

Correct, Bubba is just someone's name.

I drive an Ev kona. I traded my ram 1500 hemi for it. I REALLY miss my ram. Like REALLY miss it. With the modified exhaust and cold air intake and such. I sooo miss the sound the of it. The space. The usefulness of the truck.

I don’t understand why people get so bent out of shape reading some of these comments when I was reading them laughing because I have either done a few of the things or know ppl who have. None of it to me seemed derogatory. More tongue in cheek.

The only saving grace for the kona is the lack of gas bill. And the parking in the tiniest spaces.

that said…. I still can’t wait for the rivian. I’ll just play v8 sounds on the stereo.

Hah! What I've learned from this thread is that there is a serious lack of humor around this joint. That or it's a good outlet for someone's daily virtue signaling and outrage. Hard to say which.

Are you going to deny that words like Bubba and backwards and conservative are used the pejorative towards all or most people on the right of the isle regardless of whether or not you use them that way?

Those terms are offensive, cut the shit

Then you clearly haven’t learned anything because the truth of the matter is certain people on here think it’s okay to slander their political rivals constantly while pissing and moaning about them.

It’s getting real old hearing the constant left wing bullshit about whatever right leaning bogey man hurt your feels today then having the very same people whining about being called on their hatred and bigotry. Stop being a hypocrite.

I think the big bummer about being angry at ICE truck drivers is that:
  • It misses an opportunity to show off some of the great things that EV trucks can do, thereby interesting more people in great products like the R1T or Lightning.
  • Ignores the fact that there are still a number of things ICE trucks are better at than EVs, like towing
  • Ignores the fact that despite the fact that ICE trucks can also be are very expensive, many of them are significantly less expensive and more readily available than EV trucks. This is especially true of your base-model work trucks that get beaten up on a daily basis and represent a good chunk of the market.
  • A lot of the hate towards ICE truck drivers is based on the idea that they are bad for the environment. They are certainly worse for the environment than the majority of vehicles on the road. However, I think its questionable for us to turn our environmental anger at those drivers. Look at the emissions of airplanes, cargo ships, concrete/construction, and so on. If we were to proportionally assign blame for the ongoing climate crisis, I'm not sure that the portion of the american population daily driving F150s or Ram trucks is really the major contributor. Turning people into the villain makes them tune you out, imo. I realize trucks are more visible to us every day than some of the other emissions sources I mentioned, but I think its sometimes intellectually lazy of us to point to the one thing we can easily identify and get upset at it (and I have been guilty of this in the past as well).

Everyone needs to relax and remember why we're all here. Let's get back on topic, eh?

Bottom line, there are people on the road that for one reason or another want to antagonize EV drivers. There are assholes everywhere, enough has been said on the topic. Yes, some of these views are skewed towards a certain ideology or another, there are religious wars on every interest, hobby, or passion we may have. Let's move on.

What my rant is all about is that it seems acceptable to some on this forum to use language that slanders certain groups of people on a fairly regular basis while simultaneously complaining about rude and inflammatory actions by the group of people you’re currently slandering.

If you’re going to take offense to acts like “rolling coal” and hating on EVs you have no right to turn around and call these same people “far right” or use terms like bubba and backwards because those terms are equally hateful and exclusionary.

This forum is for everyone and a thread whose initial purpose was to complain about an act very quickly devolved into shitting on a particular group of people which is the hypocrisy I’m speaking about.

You don’t get to be offended about the rudeness or mean behavior of others while perpetuating it yourself. That’s not a big ask, be the sort of person that you wish these inconsiderate people were. These “jokes” aren’t funny they are exclusionary and frankly rude.
