Get your own magnetic jack pucks and insist they use them, or have them show you what they will be using and how they will insert them. A few questions goes a long way. Ridiculous you have to ask, but it's the nature of the beast now.
I went to a regional tire chain to get a flat repaired (Les Schwab) and the person who came out to my vehicle immediately asked "do you have jack pucks?"

"Yep, just getting them now" (they were in the frunk sub-floor storage, I was lifting my stuff out of the frunk when he walked over.)

Then when I went in to talk to the clerk to fill out the paperwork asked "do you have jack pucks?" when I said it was a Rivian.

It was going to be an hour until they got to my vehicle, so I walked to the restaurant across the street. As I came back my vehicle was still in the same parking spots, so I put my leftovers in the gear tunnel cooler, and the mechanic was coming over just then to drive it in and… "do you have jack pucks?"

"Yep, on the passenger's seat!"

Good to know they at least know well enough to ask for them in every interaction! (Although I didn't think to look under to make sure they put them in the right spot. I guess I'll go do that now!)

Always conflicted about this. They’re always super nice people and hard workers, and you want to trust they’ll do it right…but also, “discount” is in the name, so…..

I wouldn't pretend it's all that common, but, it happens, they have probably a 1% or lower screw up rate, I'm not trying to falsely inflate the number of issues they have had.
Im looking at it different...

This is the company thats in a Sudo agreement with Rivian to do this type of thing.
Everytime Discount Tire messes it up, it costs Discount Tire around $1000-2000 dollars to replace all those under trays.
When you are only spending $1000-2000 for the set of tires, thats assuming they are not there for just a tire rotation, any chance of profitability just goes right out the window, considering the profit from a set of tires isnt the face value of that purchase.

Sooner or later, Discount tire is going to realize they are loosing money, hand over fist, and get to a point of saying that they just arent going to service Rivians because their technicians cant understand how to use a Puck.

Im dreading the day that they use the puck completely incorrectly, and jack up the truck at the battery tray, and it goes thru.... and here comes the fire department.

Replacing all the panels under the Rivian is $650 including labor and tax, I have a quote.

Whether or not Discount tires makes profit on Rivian vehicles does would have no impact to their bottom line we represent such a small customer base it's irrelevant.

If Rivian has as many vehicles on the road as Tesla, you'd have a point.

Update: it took some following through but good news. DiscountTire finally got claim submitted and as OP mentioned the underbody panel replacements is $650ish. DT gave option to have Rivian do it and they reimburse directly or pay me. Since I already had mobile appointment on books took the latter option.

Anyone who comes across this. Make sure you email/show photos to the DT manager etc same day and have them submit a claim which should generate a claim # starting with 14xxxxxx anything else as claim number will not resolve it.

I just got my 3 panels replaced, their courtesy $350 paid for all 3 anyways so from their point of view they declined my claim but in reality they paid for it so I am happy.

Seems unreasonable to expect everyone with a jack to figure this out. Rivian needs to dummyproof jack locations, so obscure third party parts (JackPucks) and special knowledge of the vehicle aren’t required.

I have used Discount Tire for the past 6 years with my now sold model 3 and '24 model y. They havent messed up either ride underneath but they broke a wheel cover for my Y and didnt tell me (I found it two weeks later). They also messed up a valve stem on my xc90. Cant hurt to watch them work in the future.

had a similar experience at Discount Tire. i specifically asked if they had worked on Rivians, if they had the jack pucks, know where the lift points are, and know how to use them and know about the tire service mode in the software. they said yes to all. i waited in the lobby and was doing some work and not a few min later i see my vehicle jacked up without pucks. i go out there to tell them to stop. they are lifting the vehicle directly on the plastic panels. i ask them why they are not using pucks and they say it doesnt fit. i ask to see the pucks and are plastic and have no nipple and he was trying to place them where the bolt hole is. WTF.

i get my own jack pucks out, which i happened to have, and show them where to lift it. i also tell them about tire change mode, which they hadn't enabled. after they were done, i checked underneath and the plastic panels were damaged.

i wrote about it a couple of months ago. someone from Discount Tire responded and messaged me saying the said the manager would call. well, he never called. 3 more times i followed up and they said the manager would call and nothing.

Stay away from Discount Tire - POS. @Discount Tire

Which Discount Tire was this, @dleewla? I had an excellent experience at Discount Tire in Hillsboro, Oregon, but I don't know the good and bad ones on the Washington side. I'd like to know more!

Shame @Discount Tire pulled out of this forum. A cowardly decision by the executives who should have supported the effort wholeheartedly. The best PR is a sincere effort to listen and improve....

Best wishes!
