Preorder holder for LE R1S in Toronto.
The delivery window I got was July-Sept but like others I highly doubt this will occur. In the US there are job listings, service centres under construction, and events. We have none of those in Ontario from what I have been able to tell. Q1 - Q2 of 2023 would be my prediction for LE deliveries in Canada

Given that all the LE preorders for Canada seem to have the same delivery window, and LE deliveries are picking up pace rapidly in the US, they’ll probably hit that timeframe.

A lack of service centre shouldn’t stop them from delivering in Canada.

as an example, I am in Winnipeg and there will definitely not be a service centre here within the next year or two. Tesla doesn’t even have a facility here.
The closest one will be Minneapolis.

Rivian will likely rely heavily on their mobile service in Canada.

This gives me hope! Thanks.

I was in touch with CS recently and I asked about how deliveries up here would work without service centres or infrastructure that is present in the US. I was told that deliveries would be arranged by the nearest service centre. I clarified that the nearest service centre to Toronto is in NY state. He agreed and stated that Canadian deliveries would take place from the closest service centre at time of delivery.

I take this to mean that LE deliveries in Canada will take be coordinated largely by US service centres closest to the border.

I am really hoping they have plans for a service centre/hub in Buffalo, if they do not have immediate plans for one in Toronto.

FWIW my parents bought a Tesla model S in 2017. The sale was done through the closest Tesla centre….which was Toronto.
A regular old car transporter dropped it off. No help getting things set up, nothing.

Rivian seems to be a bit more thorough in that regard.

Surely they’ll have something in upstate NY

I think that if they would go through the trouble of considering a service centre in Buffalo, they would more likely open one in Toronto, which is only 2 hr drive away.

yes, but maybe not at first. Logistically for rivian focusing on US service centers first makes sense vs Canadian service centres

I’ve noticed my configuration’s pricing has gone back to the “old” price. And I had to add the tonneau cover back.

in fact, it‘s to be slightly less expensive now, to the tune of $2,390

Has anyone else checked?

None for me yet.
Since I cancelled, I am waiting for my original order to be re-instated.

Actually, I would disagree. While I'm sure that they'll work on expanding in the US, they'd be shooting themselves in the foot if they didn't put a service centre where there's the likelihood of high order volumes. Toronto and Vancouver were the amongst the first places for Tesla - I would think Rivian would look at that and follow suit (if not expand it faster across the mid-west and west). You're going to have issues ferrying cars back and forth across the border for servicing.

I noticed it was cheaper even when adding back in the power tonneau - about $1-2K I think. I'm hoping that holds!

From the very poor map in some of their investor documents, they had Vancouver, Calgary, and somewhere in southern Ontario shown as eventual service centre locations.

They haven’t listed any service technician jobs, so it’s possible they’ll use temporary faciliities like Tesla does where they don’t have a location. In Winnipeg for example, Tesla has a mobile technician based here, no permanent facilities of their own. Instead they lease a bay at one of the certified body shops. to do major work.

however it is also possible that if there’s something major enough to require fixed facilities that they’ll just stick a an R1T on one of their many flatbeds and bring it to the US. I’ve shipped a car to the US and back for engine work. It is not complicated. Even easier on a commercial basis.

Yep, the $2390 cheaper for me is with power tonneau. Will be a nice surprise if it sticks.

I keep thinking that Vancouver is the most likely location for the first service center. Mostly because they already have the developer office there and the recent "Canadian Guide" hire on linkedin is also based in Vancouver. Add to that - the proximity to the WA service centers if anything major needed to be fixed that could not be addressed by a smaller "satellite" service center in the short term.

But I'm biased because I live in BC and that would support the deliveries to Vancouver Island via mobile techs. Tesla only just announced a service + delivery location on the island last month (to be completed in 2023). We still have to pick up Teslas in Vancouver, and mobile techs operate out of a local garage in Victoria they rent space from or do pure at-home service here. It's worked ok for Tesla - the real issue is sending people across the ferry (at our expense) to pick up our new cars. Or if there is major service required, we have to pay the ferry costs ($100+ each way).

I agree that Vancouver seems the most likely first location for a service centre for the reasons described. I would speculate that Toronto would be number 2 on the list. This would be in line with Lucid who started with a Vancouver location and recently opened a showroom here in Toronto that I visited (and placed a reservation with after a thorough tour/excellent service).

I am of two minds regarding how I should feel regarding my LE R1S delivery timing, even though I am in the July-September time frame; on one hand I am heartened by the pace of deliveries in the US, however I also would take it with a grain of salt considering we are in a different country, with no record of service centre building permit applications or job postings in the Toronto area. Meanwhile Lucid already has a fully functioning showroom with a vehicle on site and test drives to follow soon.

With the current production constraints I can almost hear a Rivian exec on an earnings call saying that they have pushed back their Canadian expansion plans to better meet US demand, however with the Rivian Guide hire I am fighting that thought away lol

Personally, I have the same thought as well, but fortunately I am not inline to get my R1S until after June 2023. So, I have a full year to see how this situation changes and where Rivian is in their plan to expand here.
