Still have the same amount of too much free time, and this is the least worst vehicle specific forum I’ve seen in 20 years.

Another slam dunk by the Rivian PR team.....
  • 6/11/2022 - Rivian communicated a Nov-Dec 2022 estimate
  • 10/21/2022 - Received a "we're not making the powered tonneau" e-mail. Changed my config.
  • 10/28/2022 - Received a "we're not making your color combo" e-mail as delivery estimates went live in the account. Changed my config.
  • 10/28/2022 - Status set to "Processing Estimate"
  • 10/31/2022 - Talked to CS. Best they could offer was that my estimate will be refreshed. In January. Which is after the only estimate I could possibly go on. I'll either get this truck during a week I'm out of town with like 20 minutes notice, or years from now.
Their ability to trip over their own feet when it comes to communication is unrivaled. I'm fully expecting the next e-mail I get from them is that I'm not within range of a service center (despite CS confirming I am) and yet another indefinite delay.

I'm floored by this. On one side of their mouth, Rivian acknowledges how important delivery estimates are (so people can plan.....) and yet on the other side, seems to show a complete lack of disregard for the accuracy or availability of said estimates. They're so flippant with their communication it's tamped my excitement into constant uneasiness, wondering what the next blow is going to be.

I'm sort of taking the Processing Estimate status as a combo of "You are S.O.L." and "We really don't know or care if or when we are going to deliver your vehicle". As I said in another post: Rivian's rotten communications and messaging causes actual pain to their customers. I recently sold my 2019 Landcruiser because I was planning on the Q4 2022 estimate they gave me (and it was a good time to sell with the recession heating up). Now I am a one car family and won't even know until the end of january if I am going to see an R1S in 2023! I now have to make a decision on buying a used car in a declining market, taking a loss on that as well and probably losing the $7,500 tax credit (even though I sent in the "binding purchase agreement". If this keeps up I will end up spending more than the new retail price. They could certainly use a bit more customer awareness and focus!
