Thinking of importing our R1T/R1S into BC. Wondering if anyone has done it here. How was the process? Were there modifications necessary to bring the car over? Also, do we only need to pay 5% tax?

Doing the same, although we are moving there. Will be interested to hear about the process.

Where in Canada are you importing it to? Also, you can reach out to brokers that specialize in bringing vehicles across (quick google search) some have import duty calculators on their site as well that vary by province.

Also, Rivian will not deliver to you in the states unless you have a licence tied to a specific state or a physical address in that state (thinks that's still the policy). I went down this rabbit hole in late 2021/early 2022 as I was working in Seattle on an L1 Visa, and was looking to take delivery down there and bring it back to Vancouver.

Edit
It was early and I missed the BC portion of your post. One cool thing is ICBC will charge you an arm and a leg upon registration. They love getting their cut ???

Logistics are more of an issue than anything else. I was told all modifications (DRLs, French language stickers, immobilizer etc) must be done at the Vancouver service center as of now and they won't do it in the US. Being that you're moving to B.C. it shouldn't be much of a problem though. Should be fairly straightforward, otherwise, like any other car.

remember, every vehicle brought in to canada under the RIV program must be inspectEd by Canadian Tire.

I wouldn’t want Canadian tire touching…well, any car, nevermind a $140k electric truck.

everything you need to know is here.

other fun thing to not forget is US CBP requires 72hrs notice for vehicle exports.

At least my R1T (early build) was delivered with all required equipments that you listed. The warning stickers are both in French and English. Same for the other compliance requirements.

It seems like there are some independent service providers. I will try those I guess…

Speaking of French warning stickers, that was a pain in @ss to remove from the passenger window.

That’s a slight relief.

which province are you moving to? If not BC you’ll have a fun time taking the truck all the way to the vsncouver area to go to the rivisn service centre for canadianizing

No need, the truck is already compliant (see previous post). Went through the requirements and my R1T checks all the boxes. Doesn’t mean the process will be easy though. Moving to QC.

I missed that post. Saw it now. That’s fortunate, although AFAIK the inspection is still required. Plus provincial inspection in Quebec. Although if you’re immigrating there might be a settlers effects exemption. Can’t remember.

If you are moving with your own personal vehicle, and not importing it with the intention to resell, Rivian will be helpful with all that you need to be compliant. it's a different conversation when you're importing to turn a profit.

Would you mind posting a photo of the warning stickers please?

Do you mean the "tire and loading information" and VIN/GVWR/compliance stickers?

I am looking to buy an R1T in California to bring to BC - when used over 6000 km there is no PST to pay and US prices are a lot lower.

PS I found a site https://vpic.nhtsa.dot.gov/decoder/ that decodes the VIN and it seems DRL are standard.

I am talking about these airbag warnings and the US federal compliance sticker.

Thanks very much @RivianNE ! I will check my used purchase against yours. English only on the US compliance. Glad to hear that was accepted.

Do you also have "Tire and Loading Information" sticker on the driver door frame/door? If so, could you post a picture please? I include an example from my Ridgeline.

Where is the airbag sticker?
