Rivian Service told me their official policy is they will not activate a wristband or keycard once it has been resold or changed hands. They said it’s a fraud and security measure.

Has anyone been successful in activating a keycard or wristband they bought from another owner/eBay/etc.?

They quoted me $70 for a new card, including activation. That’s a fair price I think.

A few of us purchased "New" wristbands that were sold as new/never activated on ebay last year. We all got them activated pretty easily with a 5 min phone call to CS with no charge to activate them. I guess the ebay seller was truthful that they (10 wristbands IIRC) were never activated or it might have turned out differently for us.

Yes, I wrote up a post last year on how I did it:

https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/how-to-pair-a-wristband-key-with-your-rivian.15430/

I'm not sure if has changed any. Let everyone know if there's a new way to do it.
No new way to do it unfortunately. I asked for the issue to be escalated. The individual who called me back confirmed they had activated some resold wrist bands in the past but since then they’ve decided to not allow this process.

I assume they’re trying to mitigate the risk of someone phishing the service advisor and getting a key added to a vehicle without the owners permission. Or not wanting to support potential key theft/resale.

If they won't do it for you over the phone, then I'd get it done the next time you have to go into the service center. I bet if you just hand it to the guy at the service center when you drop off the car and ask him to activate it, they can do it no problem.

This was how I got mine done.
