These back tailgate straps appear to not really support the tailgate. The hinges appear to do all the work.

I am considering removing 1 or both for tailgating camping reasons. Anyone else removed these perhaps for a short duration. They appear to just be there as a backup. Belt and suspenders approach.

They seem to be under tension when I put the tailgate down.

im pretty sure they provide support when there's enough weight on the tailgate. if there's too much slack then id get that checked at the SC. they had to trim one of mine because it was too long.

I took both off as a test. The tailgate bends further down a few degrees and I heard a popping noise. Definitely required. The hinges don't have an actual stop they can rest against.

Well thanks. Now I don’t have to excitement. :). My left strap is loose not doing much my right side is tensioned. I didn’t think to ask service to shorten one. Sounds like I should keep them on though.

I had one that was loose. The mobile tech came to take a look at it (among a couple of other minor things) . After both of us scratched our heads messing with it, we finally realized, when you put sufficient pressure on the tailgate, the loose end got tight. (And by sufficient pressure, it wasn't a ton, just pushed down with a hand. Enough to deflect maybe 1/4 inch? Certainly less than when you are hauling lumber. He double-checked with someone and was told that this was normal.)

They tend to say silly things when they don't want to take time to make perfect.

They said my tire cupping "was as designed" this was at 9,000 miles
