Associating Purchased Wristband with Your R1

There have been discussions on rather or not a purchased wristband from a LE owner can be tied to a non-LE vehicle. I recently purchased a wristband key from a member on here and wanted to let everyone know what I did to get it associated with my R1T. It was surprisingly easy and quick.

1. If possible, ask the previous owner to deactivate the wristband key from their account. This may not be required, but probably certainly helps if Rivian can see that the key is not currently associated with another vehicle.
2. I went to the Rivian website and started a chat session and picked “Rivian Service” as the category. Only had to wait a couple minutes to get connected to a rep. I explained to the rep that I received a wristband key that I received and wanted to submit a request to the keys team to get it associated with my R1T. I gave him the alphanumeric code from the wristband and offered to submit a picture as well to show proof of possession. The rep asked me to submit a service request through the app attaching a picture and said he would take it from there once he saw it come through on their end.
3. I submitted the service request and within 5 minutes the rep I was chatting with called and said he got it processed through the “key team” and it should now show as an active key in my account. He said I would have to activate the key and wake up the R1T for it to start working.
4. The key was in my app and all I had to do was click activate, enter the alphanumeric code, wake up the R1T with my phone (or another key), and it was working.

My wristband key had the yellow backing and the alphanumeric number was a bit difficult to see and get a picture of, but it’s on the backside of the non-clasp end. I think there is one with a grey backing as well in which the code is easier to see. Overall quick, easy, and painless to get it added.

TL;DR:

If possible, get wristband previous owner’s name and VI

Submit Rivian Service ticket for wristband activation. Include picture of band and band code. Include previous owner’s name and VIN.

Rivian Key Team will process the request and call/email you when complete. Mine took 1 hour after submitting a ticket.

Went to rivian, did the chat and they are questioning if they can give a non-LE person access to the key even though I have one in my possession. I put in the ticket last night and have had a couple chat messages and a phone call with them but no progress yet...They left it at "they are reviewing internally"...fingers crossed.

That’s odd. I had a friend who picked up one of the wristbands from eBay and was able to get it associated with his non-LE R1T the other day. He was able to just chat on the website, select the service category, and request it. It was done within a hour. He didn’t have to submit a service request, provide a photo, or anything else. Did you try simply chatting on the website and ask to send the request to the “key team”?

Rivian initially gave me that same run around. Saying they couldn’t do it without a previouS VIN, then they couldn’t do it for non LE cars. I eventually chatted again with someone who I guess knew how. He had it activated in a few hours. So if you don’t get the right answer, chat again with someone.

I too am looking for a wristband and a bit skeptical about ebay Are the OEM Rivian wristbands or some knockoff and if OEM where would the person get them if not a Rivian owner?

Curious.. hopefully Rivian will have them in the gear shop soon..

If you purchase them from the eaby seller located in "Normal IL" and she lists them as "Rivian Truck Bracelet"... they are legit and several of us had no problems adding them to our Rivian accounts.

Just received my wristband that I purchased off of ebay...took out a service request and then initiated a chat with Rivian...explained what I needed and had to take a couple of pics of the wristband and a hour or so later..whoala...it works. Not sure how it going to work when I go and run and leave my phone in the truck but excited to figure it out.
