I have a Rivian R1S, and a Tesla Model X. While they’re both SUVs, they’re very different vehicles, and I get that. One thing that my model X has that the Rivian doesn’t seem to is interior protecting auto climate control. I want to know if it’s hidden somewhere I can’t find it. If not, I would LOVE to see added in a software update. I live in California and I’ve opened the Rivian app to check on charge level to find it well over 100 degrees inside. The Tesla will automatically turn on the AC to protect the car and its components (search Tesla screen bubbles to see why it’s important). Has anyone seen this in the controls or know of a potential update, or even a work around that doesn’t require me checking the R1S every could hours?

There is no cabin overheat protection as of right now.

I'm in AZ and car interiors easily reach over 150 degrees in the summer here. I wouldn't worry about it.

You can go into the app and set a temperature at which the truck will start to cool, and it will take it from there. I have also gotten warnings on the app when the cabin temp has gotten high so that I can turn on cooling to avoid damage to electronics.

So you’re “fix” for not having an automatic temperature control is to wait until the app warms you of excessive heat then manually go in and turn on the climate control? ? Defeats the whole purpose of “automatic” when you’re manually turning it on. I've been in software since DOS, I can tell you, it wouldn't be difficult to code in an overheat protection, especially since the vehicle already monitors interior temperatures. It's a shame it's not already programmed in.

Maybe it isn’t a problem for the interior hardware on a Rivian? I don’t recall reading about any issues with screen bubbles so it could be the displays were designed with the environment in mind. I spend time in the desert, even during the summer, and while the temperature may be uncomfortable for ME, the vehicle interior doesn’t seem to be affected by high temperatures at all. To be fair; we have an Ocean Coast interior but after sitting in the desert sun for hours I don’t know how much variation there is based solely on interior color.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
Rivian absolutely perform(s)(ed) interior temp control to protect electronics - esp the displays. I’ve seen it first hand a number of times.

Unclear if it still does as it hasn’t gotten hot enough here since last summer. May have been deprecated in software if it wasn’t necessary per Rivian. Will find out more this summer.

It has overheat protection but the threshold is really high. The hardware in the vehicle doesn't need it to be a temperature that wouldn't be anything less than extremely uncomfortable.

I never worried about keeping my past vehicles air conditioned unless I was using them. I'm pretty sure Rivian isn't going to make me start now. Seems like much ado about nothing.

Just a thought... a possible, simple, workaround is to use Pet Mode. This function will keep the interior at the set temperature.
