Is it me, or does the wiper settings, in particular the auto wipers, suck?
The auto wiper never seems to work when it’s raining or at least how I would expect them to work. I also have a Ford F-150 and its auto-wipers work great.
Are there tips and tricks to improve the Rivian wiper settings?

Auto wiper behavior is getting an update next patch. Rivian really seems to be on the ball with these lately because these kinds of complaints keep coming after the pre-release notes are "leaked".

What is the issue you are facing? Mine works great and never had issues but it might be something to do with the amount of rain falling on windshield

I've noticed it takes a little time for the Auto feature to "figure out" the right wiper speed, but after a few min they seem to work well for the rest of the trip.

For my R1S, if the Auto wiper doesn't wipe when the windshield is wet, push the button at the tip of the left stalk. The button closer to you is for the back window; so push the one away from you. This will also wake up the Auto wiper and it will continue to auto wipe.

This ^ . It will be a much appreciated update for sure. They aren't horrible now but there have been occasions where the auto just didn't work at all and we needed to keep manually adjusting the speed.

My auto wiper function is so bad I took it into the service center. Long story short, they tested and told me it works as designed. My response… the design is flawed. I sent videos of the rain on the windshield where I had to strain to see because the auto wipers wouldn’t keep up with the amount of rain. And of course the wipers run across a dry windshield at startup sometimes. I just gave up, it is what it is.

I do the same thing with tapping the windshield washer button, but I have a question about what you’re describing. Did they make a change to the physical controls to make the buttons front/back rather than upper/lower? On mine, the buttons are top=front windshield and bottom=back window. Having buttons like you describe is more intuitive to me.

I found what I have in the manual:

You are correct, it should be top and bottom; however, the stalk is a little tilted; when I'm driving, it feels more like front and back. In addition, front for front and back for back is easier to remember than top for front and bottom for back.

If the auto wipers never work you might have a broken wiper sensor. They tend to get broken when a windshield replacement happens.

For me it works, it’s just not strong/fast enough for the rain coming down. Looks like the new one has options for sensitivity. In my case it needs to be more sensitive for it to wipe quickly enough to see clearly.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
Mine is strong enough, but overzealous and wipes way too early. We live in a damp, misty place - makes for a lot of extra windshield action.

FWIW I’ve never had auto wipers that I was satisfied with (exc Porsche), though, so get off my lawn.

I got the same impression as a new owner. The wipers wipe when there's rain but don't clear the windshield enough to see consistently. My conclusion was a bit different. The water doesn't bead off the windshield. It tends to just splat and stick there. I might just be used to rainx where you almost don't need wipers at all. I'm going to give it a coat as more rain is in the forecast.
