Driving along at about 30 mph and truck made a very loud ratcheting sound, accompanied by a high frequency shutter. Drive fault error message popped up, saying don’t exceed 42 mph (oddly specific). Parked vehicle to assess the situation and after a few minutes, an alarm chime sounded in the car, and a critical battery issue message popped up. While I was on the phone with roadside, the car steadily deteriorated until it was complete inert.
So many simultaneous issues, doesn’t make any sense. I don’t see any damage to the underside of the truck. Almost wonder if it’s a 12v issue.
thoughts?

Sounds like one of your rear wheel disconnects failed.

Preliminary diagnosis from the Service Center is a failed Rear Drive Inverter. That I can deal deal with. The abysmal performance of the tow companies Rivian has under contract in the Houston area is another story - nearly 20 hours and three separate tow providers from first call to my truck actually being loaded on a flat-bed. I will say the Rivian CS team was fine - professional, responsive.

trying to keep a good attitude here. after nearly 3 weeks, my truck was at least placed into service mode today. The Diagnosis I received from the tech was a rear power inverter failure. The tech said they had "most" of the parts. waiting for the other shoe to drop on time. Has anyone had any luck with fighting with Rivian (or the bank, Chase in my case) for some type of compensation for not having your vehicle available. I see this slipping to 3 weeks easily and a month or more is not inconceivable.

I know Rivian provides towing for warranty services but I still have AAA for the family and use them for towing. From the stories I read on the forum and Reddit that was a good move

Depending on your state, a month in service might put you lemon law territory. But in general, Rivian’s monopoly on service makes it easy for them to screw you over, suppress recalls, etc.

Couple pics for your viewing pleasure. Root cause was o-ring failure on the coolant system pathway between the rear power inverter and drive unit. The subsequent coolant leak damaged the drive unit and fried the power inverter board. New drive unit and new 12v battery later and I’m on the road again. Pics attached. O-ring circled in red.
Once the holidays were over, the Service Center moved quickly, considering the scope of the work. They did have to R&R my running boards. Charged me $200 , but credited the amount. I thought that was fair. Outside is the abysmal contract wrecking services Rivian has setup, the process was OK, with regular consistent updates from our he Service Center (Houston Service Center)

I doubt the SC manager would have approved these pics. I had to recover some belongings from the gear tunnel and it had to wait until the brought the vehicle back online. as long as I was back in the service bay....

30 days in TX. ten days left with 20K miles and I think 6 months left on the cap.

This is a bummer. Did they give you a loaner or send you to a rental place? Hope you are back on the road soon!

Yea, back on the road. they did provide a loaner. Morale of the story is - don't break down before Christmas - the SC here definitely had a skeleton crew over the holidays
