I mean I understand your concern here but there is very likely a difference to someone in the future in the US that doesn't want to pay for the LTE plan. Most likely there will be a free tier that includes basic functions but we will see. Not sure where you are but seems unreasonable to expect Rivian to just let you have free roaming data.

Did they give you the option to pay for LTE service on your own? I understand if they don't want to pay roaming charges in other countries, but they should allow you the ability to do so if wanted?

I don’t want free roaming. I would pay. I just want some option at all.

No. Some service reps tried to imply that LTE doesn’t work here. I requested options to allow me to pay. Some service reps got back to me with either let’s say inaccurate Info. Or the ignored my possible solutions and just told me it doesn’t work now. I was aware that it doesn’t work now so I didn’t find that helpful.

Did you check in with Rivian about the usability of the LTE network where you were moving before exporting it?

I understand the frustration but we can’t expect support and full functionality everywhere at this point. Hopefully in the future they will include the network where you are??

I predict their connectivity plan will be just like Tesla's. Without it, you'll get basic GPS routing functionality and access to charging station data; nothing more.

Pay for the connectivity services to get access to infotainment streaming apps and whatever else Rivian plans to toss onto the Rivian OS.

I wasn’t sure how it would work. But all the major us providers work here so I figure they would just provide me with a roaming option.

There must be people in the continental U.S. who take their Rivian to places without LTE connectivity, isn't that some of the marketing message from Rivian? How do all these features work there? Yes I need to go experience this myself, no I haven't done it yet.

If you are outside of a coverage area you won’t be able to wake the vehicle remotely. And no data while driving. But your cell phone wouldn’t work either probably.

This is a big issue. Rivian's whole "Adventure Vehicle" idea is to go on "off-grid" adventures (where there is no LTE). So how does the vehicle work in these remote National Parks while "Boon-Docking"?

It is definitely not a big issue. I spend weekends off grid all the time.

Did you think it had a satellite dish? Just don't try to stream music or use routing while offline. Same as any other vehicle.

This. I’m sure there will soon be an offline map caching feature for those who are in areas without connectivity.

I also do agree more vehicle manufacturers should offer a dual-SIM modem to ensure the best connectivity nationally.

So, you can route to destinations, or at least the vast majority of known ones without connectivity, it defaults to a stored minimalistic map, but still shows paths and roads on screen. Unfortunately the vehicle uses the cloud to determine charge points and SOC algorithms. PAAK still works fine, and you can lock and unlock the vehicle or perform basic functions while in Bluetooth range.

The only feature I find missing when in an out of service area is no local media storage. Unless I tether a phone with downloaded songs (first world issue) the media portion of the Rivian is useless. Please for the love of... add the ability to download offline playlists to the vehicle directly, even if it requires an external drive.
