I was backing into a parking garage spot, which has poles sticking out from the wall 2 feet into the space. They’re high enough where the rear bumper camera doesn’t show them when 5-6 feet away, but just low enough to hit the truck tailgate.

This is a really silly parking space, and ultimately my fault.

But I wish Rivian would use the camera above the truck bed and show that somewhere on the reverse view display. It’s a big problem that the reverse view doesn’t show objects that will hit the vehicle. And the ultrasonic sensors are too low.

This is a good PSA....I could have made this same mistake and now that you pointed it out...I am hopefully going to remeber when appropriate.

Ouch! I agree, there should be an option to switch to between the camera over the truck bed view and bumper camera view.

I'm more surprised that it doesn't show in the 360 view. I figured they would use the top camera in that.

That sucks. The Rivian backup camera is the worst I e ever used on a truck. It’s way too low and the angle is completely wrong.

And the front 360 is messed up from license plate bracket too. Blind area in front. Definitely didn't think that all thru enough.

On my Jeep, I can literally see the rear bumper and if I am a fraction of an inch from impact. Not tru for Rivian.

Something similar to this happened to me on my 3rd day with the truck. Bumped into my recycling bin, so the damage was not that bad, but I have to say, in my 2 1/2 decades of driving, I’ve never had something like this happen to me. A few weeks later I witnessed another R1t bump into the wall in a parking garage. There have been several reports of people backing into trees and other objects here in the forum. I think there is something wrong with their warning system/cameras.

Yep, I don't trust the cameras. I backed up into my old truck two weeks after getting my R1T. I swear the camera did not show it in the view. Never had this happen in my many years of driving. Tried to rely on the technology and that's what happened. ?
