Borealis R1S pics and first trip experience

Hey everyone!

Sharing a few photos from my PA → Boston trip. The color still surprises me…in the sun the purple really pops, but in the shade it can look almost black (you’ll see what I mean in a couple of these).

The drive itself was really nice, hands-free made the long stretches a lot easier. Only complaint was Google Maps in Boston…it had me going some very “creative” long routes. Not a Rivian issue, just wish Apple Maps was an option.

I almost forgot, I fucked up and upgraded to a digital key, now my car won’t open automatically when I’m near it, and I have to use Face ID and lay it on the console for me to drive it every time. Super annoying

Also, I have to say…Boston drivers are on another level compared to what I’m used to on the East Coast.

I only spotted maybe three Rivians total the whole trip, one at the RAN in West Hartford.

Thanks for sharing and good photos. I am considering this color for the R2. When it shines in the sun it looks great but I don’t want a black car and if it appears black in poor light then I may have to give it a miss. Will be good to see in person.

One thing about the digital key, you want to make sure that passive entry is turned on in Apple Wallet. That way you won’t have to do Face ID each time.

There's a Borealis in my neighborhood. Every time I see it driving up to me while I'm out walking my dogs I think it's black until it gets within about 20 feet of me. It's a very unique color but I've yet to see it look anywhere nearly as bright or as purple as it looks online.

Yea, in the shade and indoors it does look very blackish. I was on the fence about the color when I was ordering because of that. But now owning one for a bit I will say I see the purple way more often than the black.

Thanks for the post - I'm hoping you're feeling that it was worth the month (or so) that it spent stuck on a train which delayed your delivery. I hope I see you on one of our many trips to the KOP area - I promise I'll wave or at least flash my lights.

As for Boston...I get it. My two oldest daughters live in Salem so we're up there a couple times a year, but I really prefer it when they come to PA.

No, it's not black. This is when it looks the most beautiful, in poor light!

When it’s dark out it doesn’t look purple. It looks black unless you walk up to it. I don’t mind it, black and purple are my colors, but the uniqueness of the color is what drew me to Borealis.
