I'm not aware of a legacy manufacturer* that will pay to have you towed to them even if it is a warranty/safety issue...

I come from Toyota/Honda/Chevy territory, though...
That’s likely why. Volvo will as many other premium brands that I know have that policy. I also know Volvo will tow for you even if it is out of warranty and you’ve been getting it serviced at Volvo dealers.

Same thing happened to me after one month of ownership. The problem was a “soft set connector”. Since they found that issue, hasn’t happened again in 22 months.
What was the cause in your situation? I’m in the middle of this fault at the moment and they don’t know why/cause.

That is not true. For eg. Land Rover / Range Rover provides free towing during the 4 year warranty period (Irrespective of warranty repair or not)

That free towing during warranty period was integral to many a purchase (for us and many other owners). Land Rover made a priority of providing timely roadside assistance (towing away the vehicle) to provide peace of mind.

Rivian needs to severely improve the roadside assistance when the R1T/R1S is bricked. The LR/RR vehicles have similar price points and use cases to the R1S. The rover electrics are coming in 2026

they first thought it was a faulty brake caliper and replaced it, but the problem returned. Eventually they found a “soft set connector” in one of the modules. Once they fixed that over two years and 30,000 miles ago I have had no more problems.

They’re currently saying calipers are seized but don’t know what caused it. They don’t know how to replace them either because they’re clamped onto rotors and they’re unable to get them to release.

strange. When it happened to me the truck put itself in park when I stopped and then I couldn’t manually release the parking brake through the settings menu. Not sure if it’s related but I changed the ride height a few times and then was able to get it back in drive at least for a while. Nothing else worked including hard resets.

Notice I didn't say 'no manufacturer does this', but said 'I am not aware of any' and even provided a caveat...

Oh interesting, it didn’t occur to me to change ride height. Resets didn’t work either. It did prevent drive or neutral “Driving Disabled Service Park Brake System Immediately”.

Understood - just wanted to make sure that just because we all like Rivians, they do not get a free pass based on incorrect info - Rivian towing policy needs to be automatic and effective during the warranty period.

Despite having two gen 1s that have worked well and very favorably disposed towards Rivian, it gives us pause on gen 2 (not because they might have a problem, but because of the potential stranding due to the towing issues).
