TLDR. My R1S VIN is 12XXX. It is on the rails making its way to the SF Bay Area SC.

I’m noticing VINs that are thousands ahead of mine and already delivered.

Did i make a hasty choice in the shop? Any experience with “not-so-fresh” VIN numbers?

about a month ago i received shop access. I just happened to sign in to my account and noticed it.

my original order was placed in November ‘21 and expected delivery was ~March to June ‘24

i watched a R1S in my config get gobbled up in minutes. When the next one came on the shop i jumped on it.

But this was before i had joined the forums and reading everyone’s great advice.

I went by the SC today and noticed VINs in the 16xxx range. That’s 4K vehicles past mine.

should i be worried?

We've seen this before.. it's not necessarily bad, but I'd be rather insistent on inspecting it in person at least from the outside (yes they can do that for you) before signing for it.

I am not worried about it. Ours is 13,480 due to be delivered at end of month. They are producing at a rate of more than 1,150 vehicles a week (Number needed to get to the 52k for the year). Amazon aside, 70%+ of all the R1 vehicles are R1S which is now going to be the dominant vehicle for Rivian. Any order-to-delivery is going to be at least 4,000 behind the latest. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have on from May 23 build and I love it... I do not believe they have solved any major defects between now and then - and you will be glad to get your hands on it sooner than later.

I got a vehicle about 4mo after the build and its been great. There was a slight roof panel misalignment but I'm sure they will fix it.

I helped my dad take delivery of his 12,XXX R1S yesterday, which he picked out of the shop a couple of weeks ago. It was flawless, and had almost perfect panel alignment all the way around. The only small thing we're having them fix is the frunk hood sitting slightly higher on the passenger side vs the driver's side up near the front edge.

Based on this experience, I wouldn't be worried.

My 10XXX May 23 build that I picked up last week has been solid. Panels were pretty good other than one side of the tailgate they are fixing at the end of the month. Other items they're fixing include small rear footplate gap, one USB C plug in the rear, and the rear windshield wiper fluid sprayer.

All pretty minor stuff (especially when compared to some problems others have had). The vehicle drives great, ac is strong, and functions well otherwise. I'm extremely happy with my R1S.

I picked a vehicle out of the shop a couple weeks ago and it will be here at the end of the month. It’s a 7xxx VIN and I don’t really care. It has front PPF though so I’m wondering if that’s what held it up in Normal
