Camp kitchen suggestion for Rivian

I have asked repeatedly Customer Service for an update on the camp kitchen which they have ad naseum advertised and now say they are not selling the original one because they want to make it better.

First off, was anyone lucky enough to get the camp kitchen and what are your thoughts on it? is it so bad that it needed to be removed or was it more that the company was not making money on it so they shelved it.

I recommended that they partner with a 3rd party provider and have another company offer the camp kitchen which would be quite easy as the design is already in the barn. They could license this out and make a small profit for doing absolutely nothing. But RJ is dreaming about bicycles so not sure this is in the wheel house anymore.

The camp kitchen never made it to non rivian employees
Hearsay from random employees I’ve spoken to stated they would lose money on each unit sold if sold as it was
I know a lot of folks were really excited about the kitchen , many even stating that’s why the preordered the vehicle!

while it is not the one solution you are wanting,
The good news is that the aftermarket is aware of the need
I personally have been working through prototypes with Spider Roof Rack to have a no drill installation option.
We are currently doing small batch tests with local cabinet makers to make the modules at (for now, small) scale

additionally YouTuber and regular guy on this forum EVLander has a slick DIY solution he has mentioned he wants to start selling once it’s a bit more buttoned up

I think the original design was nixed due to feedback from NTSB. Folding out section blocked passenger rear door and is a regress issue. I think Rivian might be gun shy about partnering with 3rd party design, making it an official OEM component, and thus under the restriction of NTSB

Rivian is supposedly redesigning the Camp Kitchen to take up less space in the gear tunnel, and possibly even create a configuration that works in the R1S. However, there is no concrete information on when this new version will be unveiled.

Just ordered one from Thunderbolt Supply. I think it is bare bones, not like the Rivian initial concept but will give it a go. Thanks all for the suggestion.

Hi Gary - We're excited to ship you your Thunderbolt Camp Kitchen and are here to answer any questions you may have along the way! Our camp kitchen has more counter space than the proposed Rivian version. We also like the work height better on our kitchen, it's closer to standard counter level. The only things our camp kitchen is missing compared to the Rivian concept are the water tank and the pots and pans. We use a Dometic 11 Liter tank and their battery-powered faucet. It fits well in the storage bin module. Other folks have utilized different solutions. Similarly, we've found that people have preferences for cookware. We offer some great options on our site, but it didn't make sense to bundle every kitchen with pots, pans, plates, and silverware that many folks already have.

It is separate as we were unable to get Dometic to let us be a dealer. You can get it at REI or the Dometic website.
