I washed my car for the first time yesterday. I turned on the carwash mode and it sure enough all door handles went in flat. After wash was done I tried to open the door and the door handle wouldn't pop out. My bag which had the keyfob, phone and card was inside the car so I couldn't do anything. I had to call my wife who was working at that time using the landline phone and asked her to use the Rivian app to open the door for me. I guess I need to make sure I have at least the phone or keyfob with me all the time when I am doing the carwash from now on.

Just curious. Did you actually push the door handle into the door to push the handle to come out?

It is completely manual in the carwash mode. The door handle will not pop up for you to grab the handle.

You didn't push hard enough (or at all) on the indented part of the handle to pivot it and pop it out. They do not lock in car wash mode- they just stay flush until you push them out manually.

OK. I think you are right. I just touched the front part of the handle thinking it's touch sensor. I will push harder next time.

Thank you all for your help

When in car wash mode it has to open like a Tesla Model 3/Y. You have to push in on the left side of the handle and then pull on the right side as it pops out to open the door. The handle will then pop back into the door (it doesn't stay out). I am always careful when I do it because it has a pretty strong spring action when you let go of it.

Oh that is a good tip. I didn't know the door handle will go back in. I certainly don't want to jam my finger lol. Thank you!

Don't worry happens to all of us the first time. I picked up my R1S in Brooklyn and it was DUSTY!!!!!!!. Stopped at a self wash to rinse it off, and the same thing happened. I panicked, calmed down pushed the handle harder and I was in. Funny now but not in the moment.

I hand wash my R1T and rather than use Car Wash mode I use Camp Mode and turn all displays off option. I then lock/unlock the truck with my PaaK. I like this because I can put on headphones (or call and chat with mom) and every time I open the door, the truck doesn't start and move my phone playing to the stereo.

Lucky this happened since the latest update where they made the handles still present when you try to unlock. Before that they would stay in even if you locked/unlocked. Lots more confusion then.
