OP has one thread (this one) and 6 messages. Perhaps when things get fixed, OP should post a bit more of their good times to balance things out. People might get wrong impression, statistically speaking.

The problem here is the mis-diagnosis from the Rivian service team. They need to do better. Instead of rushing to get the vehicle back to the client, they should have tested more. Electrical issues are a bitch to diagnose.

Well, as the OP I guess I should comment.

1. I LOVE the Rivian. Love it. It's an amazing vehicle and a pure pleasure to drive. It's comfortable, streamlined, has some terrificly thought out features. It's one of those vehicles that you get in and without having really looked around your hand goes to the right place for turn signals, and other functions. Things make sense in a Rivian. I've been driving a Tahoe from Chevy and they have this absurd shifting system which are toggle switches on the dashboard - and it's awful. The Ford they gave me before that had all these thousands of alerts to double check to see if there was someone left in the back seat of the car. I know that's an issue for some people who leave their babies in the car but...I don't have babies and I don't need to be reminded to check for someone who doesn't exist.

My wife loves the car too. She thinks it drives well, and is very comfortable. She wasn't sure about it when I ordered it, but is a big fan.

Literally the ONLY thing I don't like is this issue which does have the affect of making me concerned about driving the car. But that is mainly because the problem was declared solved, and it VERY CLEARLY wasn't solved. If they fix the problem this time, great. If they don't - it will be close to 30 days in the shop in the first two months - which would qualify as far as I can tell under the California Lemon Law.

Ultimately I love the truck, and want it fixed. It may be that this particular vehicle (my specific truck) is a lemon - in which case I want a new one. After having driven the Rivian, it would be hard for me to move to a lesser truck.

UPDATE: They called and said it would be at LEAST another week for them to remove the wiring harness and acuaters and replace them. At least some of that is because the guy that needs to do the work was out with an injury. Clock is ticking - right now if they return the truck on the day they said, it will be 24 days in the shop since December 31st. Tick Tock Tick Tock Rivian.

It’s been a while… curious if this has finally been resolved?

Oh. No no no. I STILL don’t have my truck back.
Got this vehicle on December 31. It ran fine until February 3 (just under 800 miles).

the catastrophic failure I wrote about happened first on Feb 3. I got it back on the 10th. It happened again on the 13th. Towed on the 14th. That was 19 days ago.

They apparently had the guy who was supposed to replace the instrument wiring harness out with an injury. Then they had a power outage. And now. The day the senior service manager from Sacramento called me to tell me he would make damn sure I got my truck back and that he was going to be spending time at the South San Francisco service center to help them “get cars back to their owners”, that day he called me back a few hours later to say the wiring harness they went to out in my truck (after 17 days of knowing what the problem was and assuring me that they would fix it just as soon as the worker returned from injury — but also that it was a hard problem) he called me to say it turns out the part wasn’t the right one and the only one available was in Brooklyn NY and they’d have to ship it out which would add another 5 days to the repair.

all told, for this problem, I’m at 36 days trouble free driving with my awesome new truck that everyone envies and I lodge to drive — and 25 days in the shop undrivable without a “pick up date”.

this is really bad - and more, they have stopped calling me when they said they would with updates. And finally the senior service manager gave me his cell number but even he can’t believe how long this is taking.

by the time I get it back it will be over 30 days in the shop. And officially according to California, a lemon.

all I want is a working truck.

Me? I would lemon law the vehicle or ask for a replacement. Once the service center completes major R & R of parts to get access the truck will never be the same.

You *must* ask for a new truck at this point. My god. What a nightmare. So sorry.

If it’s past the lemon law threshold already I would certainly do everything I could to get a replacement truck from Rivian. The excuses aren’t really confidence inspiring either….

I’m just about there. With the possible exception that it could take forever to get one as they state they put you in the queue.

TBH I would almost prefer that to taking back the truck they seem to be having so much trouble fixing. Seems to me if they have trucks to put in the shop they should be able to find you one quickly, but who knows…. No easy solutions. Either way I hope they make it right.

Rivian really needs to hire someone who knows how to execute the service side of the business before it destroys the whole company.

And if the person is right already, and that is very possible, then the executive team needs to really up the budget for that person.

Any updates? In similar boat, had the truck one day before screens shut down and center compartment locked. Getting close to 30 days on the clock following failed attempts to fix and now awaiting yet another attempted fix (this time rewriting scripts/code with no actual time line for completing the "fix"... days, weeks, months... no one knows).

Would like to hear both your update and OP’s update on causes and resolutions by Rivian.

I realized I never finished the story.

I did ultimately get the car back after nearly a month. They replaced the instrument wiring harness thatis essentially the spinal cord of the car because apparently there was corrosion causing short outs.

since getting the car back it’s run perfectly for 2 months and I’m very happy.
Rivian did, as an act of goodwill, offer to pay a car payment for me for the month it was out of commission. And while they said they cut the check in early April I have not actually seen it arrive in my mailbox. I do have this all down in email that they agreed to pay though. I suspect it’s going to take a month or two of pestering before I see the money.

Good to know, thanks for the additional information. Glad to hear Rivian made it right and that you are happy now. Hope you get the check soon.
