I am thinking about adding ceramic coating/tinting to my R1S windows to cut down on UV and heat. I live in the desert of Southern California. The company I have contacted encouraged me to do the windshield as well, but I’m hesitant to do that. Anyone have any experience with any of this?

Absolutely ceramic tint the entire front if you’re in a warmer climate. Has made a world of difference here in Hawai’i.

Yes have it done at 70%. Yes it is illegal in most states. No one will bother you about it.

Still waiting for my R1T to arrive (I’m in Canada) but I’ve had windshield tint on my Lightning the last year and a half and love it. 25% on the front windows and 70% on the windshield. I definitely wouldn’t go any darker. I’ve actually thought of lightening the tint on the front windows a bit.

Yes like others said 70% is perfect on the windshield.

Even with strait clear ceramic the temperature will drop. I have two vehicles at 80% and one at 100%.
I prefer the 80.

I did full ceramic on all windows including sunroof and windshield. Makes a huge difference here in Houston.

You thought Rivian windshields were fragile? Picked up a 24 Tundra yesterday, got 63 miles on it before a rock tapped the windshield this morning. Didn't see anything when it happened, parked truck for 30 min only to come back to a 6" crack and growing. My Monday tint appointment turned into a visit to Safelite this Monday instead.

Guess it is better than after I tinted the windshield.

In my R1T at least, the heat inside was just unbearable during summer months. I tinted all the side windows and even the roof, but still got way too hot inside. I then did the windshield in a basically clear tint that is supposed to cut down the UV rays. To the naked eye, can't tell that it's tinted. But through a combination of it all, the interior now stays about 30 degrees cooler in the summer than it did.

I did this as well. Noticeable difference of heat when the sun would shine onto my arm or hand when driving in a rental R1 without it. Highly recommend. I did 70% xpel prime plus.

Do it. Don’t waste money doing the roof. Just get the shades. They work much better and way cheaper. I learned the hard way.

I did it, and love it. All windows and the windshield (but not the sunroof). Same place I went in my area for all my past vehicles. Definitely do it.

This is 3m Crystaline 50 on roof and windshield and Luminar 20 all around
if you are getting ceramic tint then the moonroof and the windshield are the 2 most important to have tinted as far as heat and uv management/decrease. You should absolutely get the windshield done. At a 70 it is barely darker and I went with 3M Crystaline which also increases resolution rather than decreases it. Not only is the heat management exquisite but now it is like I am wearing those HD glasses every time I drive ... Across the entire windshield. It's amazing and I highly reccomend - also as a so cal driver. Moreover it looks amazing. You're over thinking it/considering going too cheap. Listen to the expert assisting you witb your purchase and I hope this added data point is helpful

I went purposefully dark but you can go lighter than you

I’m about to do the same for my R1S - just narrowing down to an installer.

Looking at Llumar Stratos vs. Xpel vs. Stek and trying to decide which is best.
