Only when the manufacturer has a monopoly on service. Then you get monopoly prices.CEO discovers expensive cars are expensive to repair. News at 11.
Rivian definitely has a lot of room for improvement when it comes to designing for repair. It's been on here before that the rear window on the R1T costs a lot. Claims that the rear spoiler piece is a single use item and needs to be replaced along with the shark fin electronics...which seems ridiculous.

Yes...but the same can be said for a lot of automakers. Similarly, those of us who work on our own vehicles often bemoan the fact that vehicles are made to be assembled once for the least cost and rarely do they come apart nicely or easily.Rivian definitely has a lot of room for improvement when it comes to designing for repair.
Look at manufacturer marking on the passenger side bottom corner. I believe the manufacturer is Fuyao. US factory is in Ohio. It's been said the windshield is about $1800. Not sure how this guy ended up with $4500. Maybe waved his CEO business card around too much. This sort of publicity will drive Rivian to make spare parts available for others to install.
They should allow their glass manufacturer to sell to Safelite so this specific issue doesn’t occur in future. It would also relieve pressure on the service centers.
