I've only had my R1T for 4 days. Had the Rivian wall charger professionally installed on a 220 line with 50 amp breaker, 8 gauge wire, pins set at charger manual instruction. I can not get a speed faster the 4Kw or 7 miles of charge per hour. I have only charged it twice and the battery was never below 25% state of charge and capping the charge at 85%. Anybody experiencing the same and what to do about it?

I believe there has been a case of chargers being shipped out with a firmware cap still active on them, I think Rivian service should be able to reset it remotely.

Thanks for that. I sent a message to my Rivian guide 3 days ago and haven't heard anything back yet

Code in my area for a 40a charger, 50a breaker is 6 awg wire and for a 48a, 60a it's 4 awg wire. Not sure if 8 awg wire is the issue though.

Thanks, just got off the phone with Rivian and he suggested I try a level 2 charger somewhere to determine if its my charging set up or a faulty charger. I will do that and report back.

That sounds like code using Romex which is rated at 60c, using wire like thhn/thwn 90c in 3/4 conduit he would be fine. 8 awg is rated at 55 amps for 90c and 50 amps for 75c.

Not sure why a local code would not honor those ratings.

Exactly. This “subtlety” of the electrical code trips up people the most when installing EVSEs. Other issues include using Romex in exposed or even outdoor areas, using MC cable in wet areas, or not paying attention to total bends when building PVC conduit. There is lots of tradecraft and knowledge in the electrical code. DIYers can do these installs, but it takes research.
