I don't think Rivian is planning on increasing range for the R1 at this time. Not be best for towing compared to the Chevy but IMO that's the only thing Chevy has on the Rivian.

When I had my R1T in for service, I chose a Silverado EV as a rental. I found its range and interior seat comfort better than the Rivian. Everything else, I preferred the Rivian.

Try actually driving a Silverado EV. I had to take my R1T into the service center and got a Silverado EV as a rental.... in short, I could NOT WAIT to get my truck back.

The Silverado EV has terrible sight lines-- you can't see out very well. It was sluggish. The DRIVER'S SEAT DID NOT MOVE UP OR DOWN. If you are too short too look out-- too bad. A drivers sear that can adjust up and down is an OPTION. For those without that option-- you can buy an AFTERMARKET BOOSTER SEAT! Imagine being a TRAIL BOSS who uses a BOOSTER SEAT.

The interior was very plastic and cheap, with tiny cup holders. The UI was atrocious and had very limited function, with things buried multiple menus deep. The doors are big, heavy, and annoying.

Everything "not on paper" about that truck was just... off.

R1T wins all day!

The Silverado won't fit in my garage, so it isn't even on the list.

There are a lot of things about it that are just more "American truck-like" in terms of being more utilitarian and cheap. But I think some of the other trims, like the Sierra Denali, that are supposed to be much more refined inside.

I’m going to have to take a good look at the Trail Boss. The greatly increase range (especially for the price) is compelling when it’s combined with the off road capability. It also has V2H, which is Rivian vaporware at this point. Combine that with the 200kwh battery and that’s a compelling offering. But I need to look into how much it would cost to implement it at home.

With the tax credits likely ending this year, I’m going to consider replacing my R1T. I haven’t decided to do it yet. I certainly haven’t decided to get a Chevy or Ford truck, but it’s under consideration.

Earlier, someone mentioned that the Silverado had Carplay? Is that really true? I thought GM removed it from all of their cars and trucks..

I am up for anyone who pushes the envelope on range. The GM trucks definitely aren't efficient, BUT they more than make up for it by going gonzo on the battery sizes. Meanwhile Tesla capped out at 100kwh like a decade ago it feels like, and when the CT finally broke through that ceiling, they gave it the smallest battery available in an EV truck and it barely gets 300mi.

Hopefully Rivian can find a way to get the capacity they touted in the original, true max pack!
The Silverado is just as efficient as my R1T was when it was running 21s. 2.2mpkwh

If it was a rental, you literally drove the work truck (lowest trim) version of the pickup. A GMC Sierra EV Denali trim would be a much fairer comparison in terms of cabin comfort.

I pre ordered a CT and canceled that the night they announced the true specs....self driving isn't enough to sway most truck buyers.
What is a CT?

I suppose, but the guys at
Enterprise kept saying it was a $100,000 truck.

When I couldn't figure out how to raise the seat I went back inside to ask them. They came out to try and figure it out while I was looking up how to do it online. Which is when I came across the booster seat solution.

But I digress, if it really is a $100,000 truck, then it's an apples to apples comparison. Perhaps those employees didn't know how much this base level one actually cost.

After my test drive of the R1T, I’m convinced it’s the perfect size. I also pre-ordered the CT (thanks @TheRiviAnswer) and cancelled after I experienced one in person. The Silverado EV just doesn’t have the character that I’d want if I’m going to drop that many Bennies on it. The Rivian culture, displayed here, is where it’s at for me.

Excited to see what the 2026 may bring to the table.
