Hi,
I am wondering if there's a way to stop my 2023 R1T from setting the climate control back to the last time I drove it.
Example, it's pretty hot right now in CA and I'll start the CC to cool off the cabin, I'll get in and it's cooling off, I put into drive or reverse and the truck will go back to whatever it was at last time.
It's really annoying when it's 100 degrees and then as soon as you shift, it goes back to fan speed 1...
I'm sure it's all the Rivians are doing this and I don't understand why it has to be like this.
And if you put it in reverse you can't adjust it unless you cancel the backup view or shift into park.
I have gotten used to putting it in drive before I shift into reverse so I can adjust it, as soon as it's in drive it goes back so then I can adjust the fan speed up to where I want it instead of the truck thinking it knows better.
It doesn't seem to matter if I get in, adjust the CC by taking it out of AUTO, it just goes back.
I chatted with the service guy on the Rivian website and tried to explain it to him, he didn't get it and couldn't understand what I was trying to tell him and so I gave up...
Sorry if this has been covered, I did a search and didn't see it.
TIA!

This is something we’ve been asking for a software fix on. Hopefully they get to it soon.
Use the app to request the feature. The more people who ask for it, the quicker it will come I hope.

I’m wondering if there’s a way to make the truck revert to the climate control settings used last. I want my air setting to always be recirc and my rear settings to be face and floor. My truck won’t stay told.

I don't get it either. I live in a much hotter place; it works very well and doesn't do anything really unexpected. I do wish it would keep ALL settings when I get back to the car. It remembers the temp and basic settings, but forgets the seat cooling most of the time (but not always, WTF), and forgets that I want floor cooling on. Is this what you mean?

I have mine set to 70 degrees, auto, and sync both sides. I get out, shop or whatever, remote start it, get in, and it's got all that set. It may not have seats set, and never has floor cooling set. The fan of course ramps up/down automatically based on cooling need.

I have had two R1T’s, the first a QM and presently a DM. The “auto” HVAC functions in both have been disasters. I live in a climate where it gets rather hot but also rather cold. I use the manual functions which are an improvement.

I feel ya. This has been an issue for years and surely an easy fix for Rivian but they will do nothing. Now even my vent directions are changing on their own. And the recirc mode is turning off whenever it feels like it. Simple common sense stuff like fan speed down button should also turn off ac like every other car in the world. You should not need to press another separate far away button. The HVAC is the worst designed in any vehicle I've ever owned by a long shot.

Problem is everyone is so ecstatic with their Rivian's they don't complain about issues unless they are major ones. I have expressed frustration with this exact issue in other threads but feel pretty alone in my whining LOL. I have complained directly to Rivian about this and many other little annoyances that all add up. They respond that they received the request but software update after software update, nothing ever happens.

I will do that, thanks!

That's what I am talking about, just really annoying, we have a Model 3 also, same but not quite as bad, let me decide what settings I want and leave them alone!

Since the Tesla didn't have floor cooling nor cooled seats, I guess it couldn't forget those settings, LOL!

My solution is to use dog mode most of the time, unless I will be out of the car for more than a half hour or so. Not as logical with the astronomical power rates you pay though. For me, it's a couple cents of power, for you it's a lot more. Well, but it's far cooler there, so maybe evens out.

If Rivian would expose those settings to shortcuts, then at least the remote start shortcut could set them up each time. But the only HVAC item exposed in the API is just on.

The problem with Pet Mode is that it always goes to fresh air. I don’t want hot humid air coming in.

This has more to do with the AUTO setting on Rivians being really really weak with the fans. Even if its blistering hot, the fan on auto will be on a 1 or a 2, which can just feel suffocating. I wish there was an option to change the aggressiveness of the fan, - my prior Mercedes had that - you can set it to "diffuse", "normal" or "vigorous" and the vehicle would either use the non face facing vents more (like the windshield or floor vents) or the face vents and the fan would blow on a higher setting set to the aggressive setting. I just wish on AUTO, the fan speed would stay on 3 or 4. But it won't. I like having the AC blowing strongly no matter what the temperature is.

I live in the PNW and this is my first summer with my R1S. We had some recent 100 degree days and the R1S would not cool all the way down. It was comfortably hot is the best was to describe it. It was bearable but not comfortable as I still felt too warm. I was shocked the AC fan in auto kept slowing down when it wasn’t cool.

For those who are in the constant heat like NV, AZ, TX, etc. what HVAC settings cool the R1S down the fastest/coldest on those hot 100 degree days?

I’ve also been considering ceramic tinting the windshield as I’ve never had a vehicle with such a poor AC response on really hot days. We just did a road trip in my wife’s 2018 Acura MDX and had 3 days at 100+ and it was night and day better at cooling the car and keeping it cool vs the R1S. I also wonder if my AC isn’t up to spec. I have a Sept 2023 delivery.

We live in the south.
I do use the app to cool the R1 in advance so that helps both from home and when we are out.
But I haven’t noticed any difference in cooling from any other large vehicle I have had. I do make sure I turn on all the vents in all three rows every time.
