One more question - we are a one car household. I know that you always hear about the bad experiences, but I'm concerned about the chances of me screwing up the install and turtling the car at the most inopportune times. Am I being overly paranoid?
Plugging the harness into the axm is the only part that can be stressful really. The best advice is not to start the install if you have anywhere to be. Pick a day where there's no need to go anywhere. If you struggle getting it plugged in the added stress of a time limit just makes it that much harder. The install itself hasn't been known to cause an error that can't be resolved. Just follow the guide, have a shot of whiskey and take your time. Of there's a comma user near you, most of us are willing to help out provide support.

If you follow @gerrylum s guide here: Comma Install Guide and/or watch his videos (just search youtube for Electric Valentines) you should be good. Just remember to let the car "go to sleep" and disable any ability for it to "wake up" while your doing it and go slow and you should be fine. Also, make sure you use the "fuse tap" and if you don't use Lukas' harness, then disable the power going into the AXM on the stock Comma harness (Gerry's guide covers this).

Thanks to all for the feedback. @jrmbadger - I read your post re: angle based steering co-op challenges, but good to hear that we can switch back to torque based and it seems like co-op works pretty well with it.

Again - apologies for having yet another "shopping list", but this is a fairly significant purchase (for me at least). It would be great to get feedback to make sure I'm purchasing the right things:

Comma 4 (without harness)
Extreme dev kit
Cross glide mount
8 degree adapter

Can't speak to the mounts - I use the stock comma mount and for me it works just fine. I've heard the 8 degree is better. I have no experience with the cross glide mount. Otherwise, looks good. The Extreme dev kit includes the fuse tap and everything you need other than the comma 4.

That’s what I ordered. I didn’t get the 8 degree adapter at the same time I bought the cross guide mount, so I will have to pay for shipping since it’s under Janka’s free shipping threshold. So definitely pick one up when you get the mount. When I purchased my comma 4 I went ahead and chose the rivian harness, it didn’t change the price and seemed better to have it just in case vs not.

For @gerrylum: your guide is great btw; one piece of feedback, based on the conversation here, updating your guide to say “the 8 degree adapter isn’t required with the comma 4 but users have said it still helps”, might help people with their decision. The way I read your guide, it made it seem like the comma 4 rendered the 8 degree adapter useless. Assumption on my part but when you are already $1500 into a project, the $8 adapter seems like a good trade off for “a chance at a better experience”.

I did get a $50 discount when choosing a "no harness" option, BTW. I just placed all of my orders.

Good point! I have updated the guide to reflect that.
