Hi,

I have a 2024 R1S with the OEM 21 in Wheels. I want to get them powdercoated to be glossy black and was quoted $1100 to do all four. I'm in the Washington D.C. area. Does that seem reasonable? Anyone else done this and have any suggestions on glossy vs matte, or any options you liked better than powdercoating?

Thank you in advance.

Really depends on the shop. I pay $225 per wheel at a local shop in the metro Phoenix area (Tempe). I’ve seen people mention local quotes for maybe $150 per wheel, but the shop I use has a higher end reputation and I’m fine paying for the quality and peace of mind.

That said, I’m sure some of the lower price places can do a fine job as well but there may be more variability.

You’ll have to do more research on wheel shops on your local area. I’m sure you’ll have many options.

Depending on the shop Id expect $600-800 to powerder coat them. There is a person on offerup in Socal that has the stock 21 in gloss or matte black, for $600 you can echange stock rims for the ones he already has poweder coated. Pretty solid deal considering they will mount and balance the tires too.

Proper Motion in Anaheim. I paid $700 for my 20 inch wheels. Dropped it off at 6:30 AM and picked it up at 4:00 same day.

I use a shop in Baldwin Park right behind the In N Out burger museum. I've done multiple Rivian wheel sets and they charge me $400 for a set of 4 wheels in Gloss or semi-gloss black. I will say they do not have any type of mechanical services, so you have to bring them unmounted wheels. I typically take them to get unmounted, at a tire shop ($10 to $15 per wheel), I clean them of dirt and brake dust, flatten curb rash if they have it with sand paper then drop them off. They will send them out to get sandblasted and then will powdercoat them inhouse. Turnaround is about a week, so that might be an issue if you don't have a set of wheels to put on your Rivian until they are done.

The mount and balance was included in the $700.

Man, much cheaper in Cali. Called multiple shops in Maryland and Virginia, all are about $260/wheel.

Any opinion on cerakote v powder coat for OEM Rivian wheels? One of the places will cerakote for the same price.

And thank you to everyone for your responses. Much appreciated.

Never heard of Cerakoted wheels, but it probably will hold up really well. I have few cerakoted firearms and the coating is very durable. My only concern is the finish tends to be satin to almost matte.
