I've had the Rivian crossbars for a few months now and have put them on and taken them off several times, all without incident. I did have to complete a minor adjustment to one of my feet when installing the bars the first time, but haven't touched the adjustment screws since.

A few days ago I tried putting my bars back on - 3 out of the 4 feet worked as usual with the initial click, then close the latch to get the 2nd click. One of the feet refused to do a 2nd click!

I removed the boot and played with the adjustment screws in all sorts of permutations (both tighter, both looser, one tighter the other looser, reversed, etc). I did find certain situations whereupon 'release' (ie lifting the latch) it would make 2 clicks, but it would never make more than 1 click when engaging. I found many situations where it would only make 1 click both engaging and releasing. This was done both with trying to engage it to the roof attachment point with the regular rubber 'boot' on, without the boot on, and off the roof entirely.

For reference, the other 3 feet all make the double click in all situations.

It almost feels like something is wrong with the mechanism itself - ie not related to the two adjustment screws.

Here's a short video trying to illustrate what I mean.

Any ideas out there? Anyone warrantied a bar?

For what it’s worth, my old ones clicked but never clicked tightly, tried adjusting didn’t work, sent service request and they gave me new ones. Very happy about that actually since my old ones had a bit of wear.

Yup. Contact Rivian Service. I wouldn't mention you did any type of adjustments to the bars as that could void the warranty.

I had this problem, and solved it by swapping positions on my roof. (Front-to-back and vice versa.) Not totally satisfying, but it worked for me.

I think this is one of the reasons they are so expensive. Rivian will send a mobile service person to come adjust them if needed.

Try flipping open the cover completely and then pushing down really hard. I reinstalled my rack today and it took me several hard pushes with both of my thumbs to get that second click. Push hard and fast. Good luck!

Bit of back and forth with the SC - they suggested adjusting the screw in the bigger hole in 1/4 turn increments. Did so with no luck. They are sending me a new one under warranty thankfully.

In the meantime, I have a nordic ski race away again this weekend, and after managing without the rack + ski box last weekend (awkward skis on an angle sticking out of box preventing use of tonneau cover...), I came up with a "back-up" mechanism for the latch I feel ok about.

I placed a piece of climbing cordelette under the attachment bar on the roof, installed the cross-bar foot, locked it at the first latch, then tied the cordelette to the loop at the end of the bar using a bowline, backing the line on itself through the bowline and a series of half-hitches. This shouldn't loosen and the bowline will keep it easy to untie.

same problem here. My racks worked perfectly on my R1T though when I took them off to put on my new R1S no luck and I did try all 3 mounting points on the roof

None of the four feet on mine would latch with just thumb pressure on the tabs, but all of them do immediately if I "thump" them with a closed fist while holding pressure on the tab.

To be clear, I don't thump the tab, I hold the tab and thump straight down towards the ground on the top of the bar, right over the foot.

It doesn't take much, just a single quick thump and it clicks with no problem. I'm not especially big or strong (probably why I have a burly truck to compensate)
