People keep saying this, but does that range extender actually exist yet? Or is it going to be like the Max Pack - promised but not delivered until many years later?

I personally feel that the range extender was announced just to technically make Elon's range promise sort-of true, but that it's never going to actually be sold. Or if it is sold, it will be years before they can deliver, and then people won't buy it because it's expensive, heavy, and takes up half your bed.
Certainly possible. I haven't been following the availability of the range extender for CT.

I saw one on the road the other day.

I'm not a truck guy, but if I was, I'd seriously considering it. I LIKE IT.

I do own a R1S, not T, and I like the fact that there are options out there, regardless of one's preference.

I really don't understand the notion of either or, one versus the other. Why not both? You don't have to like it. Someone else will.

I think there’s a big overlap of buyers between CT and R1T. People who want high tech, lifestyle vehicles. Plus CT has a way larger addressable market of existing Tesla owners and fans.

I did a pro/con list comparing a base dual motor CT vs. R1T dual motor performance. The cybertruck won based on my list of what was analytically important to me. If Rivian updates the R1T for vehicle to load with at least 4.8kW it would be closer to even. However, how a vehicle drives and the suspension is more important than what a list favors. I’ll wait till the price drops on the CT in 2029 and get an R2S and rwd CT.

I think there's a SMALL overlap.

I personally never even considered the CT because, as a vehicle, it doesn't meet most of my needs. The R1T does.

It doesn't matter how good or bad a vehicle it is, it's not about Tesla or Elon or ICE vs EV - the CT is just not in the same category as the R1T for my needs.

Some times we get surprised.

with the CT disappointments for range and price it is possible that some CT reservation holders may take a look at the R1T.

It's a good question. But I think they are different buyers.. Cyber truck is a different vehicle groundbreaking in many ways like the drive-by wire system for example. But the Rivian is a more traditional looking truck but still very futuristic looking as well. The cyber truck has the four-wheel steering also which will compete with what GM has but it's just a different vehicle.

I will say the range on the cyber truck is a little disappointing. True. They do have the range extender however that takes up a good portion of the bed and it's an extra 16,000. If you're after a head turner, the cyber truck will certainly accomplish that.
How is R1T 'futuristic looking' - the controversial headlights? Otherwise looks very much like a Honda Ridgeline. R1T is more evolutionary and offers EV benefits in common form factor. Agree CT range estimates disappointing, but only a 123kwH v. 135KwH for R1T, which is significant.

The Cybertruck is for those who want to be pointed at and have their picture taken.
For maybe the next six months - after that I suspect folks will just laugh and shake their heads.

The light bars in the front and back mainly.

R1 has a 141 kwh gross pack. 131 usable. (Large pack). Many folks mention the 135 number which I think it was Rivian said before deliveries started. I posted pics of several large packs at a local salvage yard. The label shows 141 kwh. Initially usable was lower around 125 iirc but Rivian released a software update later on to unlock more usable capacity. Later verified by EPA docs for dual motor units.

From the tests on CT it would appear 123 kwh is usable which is good. I haven't dug too much into CT.

I had a reservation for a CT made in the first few minutes after reservations opened. Held it along with my R1T early order until my R1 was delivered, then canceled. CT has some innovative features that I would love to have (like a power tonneau cover… but don’t get me started)… but ultimately just not practical for me.
But what I wouldn’t give to have my R1T with the tougher shell of the CT (already have pressure dents in the tailgate just from CAREFUL closing), and the two-way tailgate and easy access under bed trunk access of my former Ridgeline. And the obligatory CarPlay, of course ?

I mean sure. But then the Cybertruck is using an interior design from 2017.

In the ICE world if any OEM came out with a new model that just matches the specs of models from other OEMs that have been out for 3+ years they would be laughed at and ridiculed… but it looks like in the EV world this is o.k. because it looks different and there is some “tech”

I guess it is the the Droid look.
It is much more rugged looking than the Ridgeline & functionality more than the CT with the exception of the thin body panels.

I cancelled my foundation series CT and ordered an R1T from the shop for delivery in the next two weeks. For me, the better real world range (DM 21" wheels), smaller size, and better amenities, plus the $18k lower price vs the CT FS DM made it a better overall option for me. I like the styling of the CT but also the R1. Happy with my decision. My previous R1S went to a good home with a big family (sold at break-even incl tax break). People cross-shop and odd array of vehicles, especially in these high price points where the balance between needs and wants tends to skew more toward the wants side of the ledger.

Was thinking more like side view of 2011 Ridgeline. Think it is rear windows.
