I was holding my day 1 reservation until we knew specs (not great) and Canadian pricing (also not great but cheaper than a Rivian) but made the choice for an R1T today. Just saving up some cash before I can pull the trigger. Unlike some here, I still think the Cybertruck has some advantages over an R1T (as does a Silverado or Lightning), however as a package the Rivian makes the most sense for me. Will join the tribe soon.

Congrats on your choice. That's often the hardest decision to make is which vehicle will meet our unique needs. There's advantages to each vehicle you considered but of the three I think the Rivian strikes a nice balance between utility, features like the gear tunnel, and looks.

Now get that truck and get adventurous...

You considered a Cyberdumpster?!

Of course, at the announcement the price and specs were awesome. The supercharger network was a huge benefit as well, which Rivian didn't have access to. The truck is bigger, with a larger bed which is useful plus the tri motor has better performance. There are benefits to the truck but many people like to bash blindly and are unable to admit anything positive. You do you.

My wife won’t let me get the CT due to attention and looks as she would need to drive it as well. The reliability has me concerned with Rivian. So much so, I’m considering hybrid stuff too. But my Y has fully converted me to EV.

There is some argument to be made that the blind would bash the cybertruck less than others... but I won't get into that too much.

Congrats on your selection, I hope the pros far outweigh the cons for you. For me the gear tunnel and shorter overall vehicle length are happy pros vs the con of the shorter bed length but everyone uses things differently. Enjoy it after delivery and I doubt you'll ever look back!

I did the same thing. I'd pretty much decided to go with the 2025 R1T Quad next year but I thought it would be prudent to test drive the Cybertruck first.

I posted my review in the Cybertruck Owners - Cybertruck Reviews section. I caught a bit of heat ?

To be fair I do agree my heading was a bit inflammatory but I'm mostly concerned about the weird regressions... for example my Model S wireless charger is the best there is.... not so in the Cybertruck. It overheated my phone 3 times over a 6 hour drive.

Yup, every vehicle has pros and cons. I've loved my R1T every step of the way (1.5 years and around 31k kms in). Looking forward to seeing another one on the roads in Vancouver! Welcome (soon) to the Rivian family!

Pros definitely outweigh the cons, R1T isn't perfect but it's definitely the best option for me. Probably the biggest con is the price, it's the most expensive EV truck out there (except for maybe the Hummer which is completely stupid).

I actually don't mind the look in all honesty. It's very futuristic, looks like some kind of Mad Max custom build. It makes some big tradeoffs as a truck, notably with visibility and access to the bed. My wife hates it, said she would never drive it. That is another pro :)

Good write-up, and expected response in a CT forum. Quad would be nice but personally I think the tri-motor is the best of both world: performance and range. It's not that much slower than the new quad but will likely get better range if it can just go into single-motor mode (FWD).

Congratulations! I agree with all your points. The R1T is the best all around truck. I am not a CT hater but it isn't for me. The CT, Silverado, etc all have things the competitors don't to try and sway buyers. The CT has a lot of cool tech and I think Tesla competitors could learn and thing or two from CT.

The R1T just does so much well that even with all these new options I don't regret my choice at all 16 months later.

I think you will be very happy with your T.

There's no right answer, and both are huge compromises. I went with the Rivian and when people ask me if I'd change, I still say it's 50/50. To me the only wrong answers are the old-think trucks from Ford and Chevy. At least the Chevy has range going for it, but my god, what a disaster of stupid 1990s design, like the Ford.

Liked the write-up, thanks for sharing your experience on the test drive!
