I think the answer is simply because it's Elon & he's not known to stay w/ the status quo wrt any of the companies he's at the helm of.

Beyond futuristic and extremely polarizing in its design, sharing materials with Starship and bullet proof panels. All completely unnecessary, but also not surprising when considering it's him.

A CT rep trying to console someone whose truck was recalled for a known issue — accelerator getting stuck — the day before delivery:

> I told him the worst part about this was I had just told people at St. Jude that I would be bring a cyber truck for the kids to get their pictures in.... He suggested I buy a used Toyota Corolla and tape cardboard to it at weird angles...

I love the CT owners forum.

A friend of mine let me drive his. I think it looks better in person. The driving experience is awesome. The technologies in it make every other vehicle, including the Rivians, old technology. I am still keeping the R1T for now, but will probably wind up with a Cyberbeast.

These are great photos that illustrate just how much better your truck looks than that ridiculous thing. Yikes.

Your whip in red is gorgeous, congrats.

Disclaimer: I am a dual Tesla and Rivian owner but I couldn't believe how dumb the CT looked in person.

I parked near CT done in mat black ppf. OMG, was it ugly! It took an already unattractive truck, that sold for well over $100k, and managed to make it look even more industrial than stock. I’ve seen many reports and videos of CT gawkers, but people were walking by this CT and hardly even giving it a second glance. It was in a ski area parking lot, with plenty of people lingering around, yet nobody seemed to be interested in it. Had it not been for the mat black ppf, I’ll bet it would have drawn a little more attention. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but…..

I did have a couple of people ask me about my R1T, however ?

There should be a prize for the first person who gets a good picture of the Cyberdumpster parked next to a regular dumpster.

Which will look more appealing?

Waiting!

I took a trip in a Cyberbeast the last couple days. It's fast and its fun to drive. That's about where my positive impressions end.

It has a horrible back seat to ride in. The front seats are way too big and tall, so you stare at the back of a seat, the side windows are small, the rear window is tiny. Back seats are uncomfortable. Also, not a single USB charging outlet in the whole CT (they have regular outlets so he needed a wall cube to plug into. I felt like I was in prison.

We had 4 surfboards loaded in the back and access to the back half of the "truck" bed is a joke. You can't reach over the side to grab stuff. There aren't level sides on the bed, so you can't set stuff on or across the back sides like you would a regular truck.

He had a stated range of 300 miles when we left and Capitola is 175 miles away. We didn't make it on a single charge. His computer said he was getting 1.6 miles per Kw. We've done the same drive a bunch of times in my R1T with the same board/people setup and I get 2.2 miles per Kw. Granted, he's more SpeedRacer than me, but I'm doing 78-80mph on the freeway when traffic allows. I usually get to that destination with 100+ miles to spare.

Also, self driving (even the Driver+ equivalent) is not available yet on the CT.

Oh yah, and it looks like a dumpster.

Made me soooo glad I have my R1T.

I saw one for the first time (in person) this morning and have to admit that it actually looked better in person than in the pictures -- granted, that's a pretty low bar to clear.

Would I ever buy one? No chance. Would I drive one for a month instead of the Rivian if someone offered that to me for free? No.

But still, not quite as hideous and off-putting as I had imagined it would be.

sometimes it takes a while for a new body design to grow on me, like “I guess the Pontiac Aztek isn’t so bad”. But I don’t think that will ever happen with the CT
