LOL yea I ignored that comment I guess but I think you are right. Funny how ignorant I can be until I discover things for myself. It just sounds less blaring now for some reason.

Short update. Still no rattle from that location and I think the music sound is better. I'm wondering if the speaker mounted so loosely muddied the sound and having it firmly anchored allows the driver to reproduce sound better.
Yeah, that’s what I was trying to describe here:
I suspect that isn't too much of an issue as the frequency of the speaker bouncing around should be much, much lower than the frequencies produced by the speaker itself, especially with what appears to be an open baffle installation. Certainly the effect of the less than rigid mounting would be no more impactful than the impact of the listener bouncing around in their seat.

I'm more thinking everything has an equal and opposite reaction. When the magnetic coil moves the cone, the opposite force is imparted to the rest of the speaker. A rigidly mounted speaker will not dampen the motion of the cone as much as a floating speaker. The more accurately the cone moves air, the better the sound, regardless of the frequency. The cone area is not entirely insignificant on that thing. It has a big heavy magnet. Maybe it's more of a mid range.

I experience the same sound when I took my R1T on a dirt road. I was pretty embarrassed. My buddies were all giving me shit.

I can’t speak for others, but this is what I see and hear… and want to eliminate. Are others experiencing the same thing or something different?

Very nice. Thanks for adding content. I don't believe the rattle is coming from the speaker rattling against the grill. I should have clarified that. The speaker has foam around it already and was tight to the grill. I believe the weight of the speaker hanging from the grill causes the grill to bounce and rattle against it's other mounting points.

Hmm, looks like you put foam between the metal grill and plastic backing frame? You know that could very well be an issue with the two parts rattling against each other.
I thought nk that was my problem; the metal grate rattling against the hard plastic frame. So far it is working well. (but now I hear other rattles from somewhere else)... ?

Thanks for the inspiration Have Blue. I tackled this today since the squeak was killing me and it was Friday and the boss was out of town. ?. I wouldn't worry too much about the airbags. There are no sensors in there and not connected to trim that is removed in any way that I could see. I used the same method as Have Blue. I'll add some pics to help give more perspective. I used hvac foam between the hard plastic skeleton and wire mesh top by bending a few of the mesh tabs of the metal screen and laying the foam in. I also put some foam between plastic frame and speaker. 'll post a follow up if it worked or not in a week or so. Foam here. Thank you for the detailed photos. I’m going to tackle this tomorrow. Question is the area I circle in red flimsy? I was wondering if I 3D printed a spacer that would both provide rigidity to the area and act as a buffer between the metal grill. If that would help? I know someone said they mounted the speaker below on some metal framing.

Also when you removed the A pillar at the top. Is it a down and towards you movement? I don’t want to break any clips.

That Cirled area is pretty stable. I think the metal grate vibrates against the hard plastic skeleton. More stability couldn't hurt to keep speaker from bouncing.

The A pillar clips are perpendicular to the windshield,so pull down exactly same angle as the windshield (directly away from windshield)

If you go through the work of 3d printing a bracket, make it attach to the dash posts below. My printer has a bad head so I haven't modeled an STL file.

Just finished reassembling my dash. There was already a thin piece of foam between the metal grill and the plastic on mine. I don’t believe that was the rattling sound I was hearing. I think mine is coming from the black air duct. It’s two separate pieces. Upper portion on mine was loose. If I wiggled it, it would make the rattling sound. See pic below.

Also the clips that run a long the front by the window. They don’t really do much besides aligning it. Wish they actually clipped into place. I think the issue is on bumpy roads once the front starts bouncing it rattles everything. I want to make a wedge along the front between the glass and the grill. To hold it down into place.

As for the speaker mount. I could make a mount that would hold the speaker in place. But it would only be held in place by those two small plastic mount points. I was trying to find a spot to mount in the rear for my stability. Im going to see if the rattling stops on mine. If not I will look to make the speaker mount.

This is the rattle that I have a service call in for (which of course won’t be until July). I admire those of you with the guts to DIY. I would probably just eff up my car if I tried to do it myself. But I’m sure my problem is that speaker bouncing around making that rattle.

Has anyone had success with Service fixing this issue?

Several people have had mobile service perform a "fix" consisting of foam in various spots. Others, including myself have tried to replicate the fix based on the thread from someone including the initial tips on how the dash comes apart. Reports were mixed on the fix. My foam job didn't fix it. With the speaker relocation, I have no further rattle. Rivian likely won't do what I did.

My ducting looks somewhat different. I guess Rivian made some change from the Launch Edition.

Looks like they removed the upper piece that was rattling on mine. It's meant to channel the air directly to the upper dash area. The upper piece slid over the lower section with the two notches you see on each side locking it into place. I wrapped mine with thin foam tape on the inside. Now it fits snug as you slide it over that lower assembly. Mine is a launch edition, my guess is that part must have cause more rattling than they expected so they just removed it on future models.

My ducting looks somewhat different. I guess Rivian made some change from the Launch Edition.

Below the speaker is a foam covered duct of some sort. It is likely a replacement part that is shaped differently than yours.

I also have that foam covered duct on my vehicle.
