I seldom take trips, and I charge 99.99% at home, using a Tesla wall charger with an adapter.
I have very little experience with remote charging. The once or twice I have done it, it has always been an issue. It's either been raining hard, or the sun was at an angle where you couldn't read the instructions and blowing. The network really needs a lot of work.
I recently took a trip from Sarasota Florida to Philly. To not have to deal with I 95 traffic, I decided to take the Amtrak Auto train! It leaves from Orlando area Florida to Lorton Virginia. It takes your car along with you in coach or a Roomette. A private small room.
I researched the trip and found a charger location near the train station. When I arrived there, turns out it was a slow charger and would have taken hours.
I had 170 miles left, so I got on the train and thought I would charge in Virginia. After all near DC, there should be many.
Found an EV nearby and started charging. It said an hour and twenty minutes. So I had lunch and just hung around waiting. After almost an hour, I looked, and found the charging had stopped! It never notified me and I was suddenly way behind schedule. Having to drive north on I 95 through DC during Friday rush hour is crazy.
I had a 175 mile trip, and had about 265 miles on my truck.
I have a similar Tesla charger in my house in PA. I though I would have enough battery to at least get home.
Cut a long story short, I arrived with 17 miles left. I hooked up the Tesla charger and it failed! The charger somehow stopped working!
Calling Tesla, we did some basic, re-boot, disconnect the truck, turned off the breaker and re tried it. Anyway, this is Friday evening and my truck is down to 17 miles. Most chargers were 12-20 miles away! I also didn't know if I went to the closest one and if it didn't work, my truck would be dead out in the wilds!
I was not prepared to take the risk of having to leave my truck in the middle of Trenton NJ, the closest city near me.
Now, Saturday and my battery is down to 7 miles, now Sunday, my truck's battery is completely dead!
Does anyone know what to do?
Is there a booster service out there?
Help.

I thought you could plug an EV into a regular outlet. It just takes forever.
I don't have a 120V connector that would plug into a 120V outlet and my truck?

If you are at home, why didn't you try the Rivian mobile charger? Should be in your frunk. If 12v is dead, call Rivian roadside assistance.

I would use the portable charger to get you just enough juice to get to another charger. Will only add about 2 miles per hour, but in this situation I’m not sure what else you can do.

It comes with every truck. usually in the frunk with your gear guard cables. It has 2 plugs with it.

OEM portable charger is supposed to ship with a removable adapter for 120V.

Wow, thanks guys. I didn't realize that my pouch contained a 110/120V connector! I never looked.:(
I have it charging now and it's gonna take 12 hours! Overnight is OK.

Wow that's an unfortunate chain of events! It will probably take more than 12 hours if it's cold. Where about in PA are you? Pull up the closest charger on plug share and make sure it's working properly.

Also, campsites will also work in a pinch. You can plug in the mobile charger using the faster 14-50 plug which will charge you at 32amps.

Two weeks ago I had to give the car of my AYSO soccer co-coach a jump. I feel like this is the EV/virtual version of a jump, so my second in two weeks.

Though more credit goes to those who let you know you already had the adapter.
