Is anyone else having their vehicle always defaulting to auto ride height. Pretty much sucks every time I get in now my ride height has defaulted to Auto. This started after the most recent update.

This is intentionally done on dual motors. Every 4 hours. New, but in the manual.

I am new to Rivian in the past six weeks so this may be a silly question, but what is the reason not to prefer ride height on auto? For my daily driving I like the auto setting where it is at standard height at lower speeds, which allows more suspension travel. At highway speeds it lowers for better efficiency. I assume some prefer to always have it in the lowest setting for better performance.

Low is uncomfortable in the R1S and the ride quality suffers greatly. I don't need to min-max range, and roads here frequently get up to low-speeds on expressways with stoplights so it's constantly cycling.

Required due to regulations in the DM. Nothing that can be done about it...

Low ride height is less comfortable and unless I’m on a road trip, I’m not concerned about maximizing efficiency. I would prefer to stay in “standard” height.

What do mean because of regulations?? I have had my DM T since last November and it just started defaulting to Auto after the last update.

They just added this and have claimed it is to abide by EPA regulations about range statements.

Rivian just realized they are in violation of their EPA certificates and had to fix it. It was supposed to be implemented since the beginning.

There should be an easier way to switch back to your preferred/previous setting when you get in other than digging through the menu. Same problem with switching out of sport mode.

I sent them an email about this yesterday. Not expecting a response, but maybe they'll make a change if enough people think this is the right way to go.

Mine has a software bug where it switches to auto ride height every time you move the shifter and sometimes randomly engages if you do things on the screen. It's been aggravating me quite a bit. Get in and turn it off? Put it in drive and it's back on. Reverse? It's back on. Inexplicably, going to settings and getting off the drive screen? It's still somehow back on...but not always. Happened since the last update.

As for the explanation that it's an EPA thing, if that's Rivian's line I think I'm going to call bullshit. Seems like they're trying to get away with a lazy implementation and I'm rather angry they put this undocumented 'feature' in that so far I can't disable despite the fact it's not working correctly. I refused to buy a Tesla exactly because of this sort of stuff about the OEM dictating post-purchase what I can and can't do with my own vehicle. My predecessor vehicle has a similar mileage-related setting where it switches cylinders off when cruising. There's a setting in the computer to disable it if I so desire, without having to do it constantly.

I'm sure they did their testing with the aero covers on as well. Does that mean that owners shouldn't be able to remove them? I don't see a reason why they'd force an owner to have to override some software setting constantly, particularly when there are actual consequences to driving in low frequently. The dual motor on its front motor is effectively just like a quad in conserve so it's going to chew up tires.

I also just really don't like driving in low, so there's that too. For shitty chip-sealed roads I tend to leave it on soft and I am not too fond of the idea of missing the auto ride height being on and winding up hitting a big bump at speed with the thing in low.

Thank you for explaining that. I had not heard that. It still sounds like a fishy excuse. But it is sure annoying.

If you remove your aero covers, it's basically the same as removing the cat in your exhaust. /s

Rivian responded to my inquiry, but it was basically just a form letter.

Don’t be so dramatic. You literally hit the screen 2x to change ….you’re not “digging through the menu”….or if you are, then you should probably spend a few minutes familiarizing yourself with your vehicle…

Mine is doing this too and I hate it. Now the R1S bottoms out on my drive home every time in the same spot, because it sets it to low without my knowledge. They need a type of "Override Auto Ride Height" button in settings, so you can acknowledge that it effects the EPA rating - or create a new "All-Purpose No Auto" mode...
