We're dealing with the aftermath of the weekends storm; tall snow drifts, roads sort of cleared, temps no higher than (checks weather station) 20 degrees. Used about all my reserves of ice melt, and there is another storm slated to hit this weekend. Local DPW offers free sand/salt for townies. Put a 5 gallon bucket and shovel in the back of my R1T. FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME EVER, put the vehicle into "SNOW" mode. Snow flake on the bottom of the drivers display. Noticed that the OPD was a bit... lesser... on the ride over to the DPW. Checked in at the office. Went to get the R1T going again, and every warning light was going off. No power steering and the truck threw "IMMEDIATE SERVICE REQUIRED" messages. My initial response rhymed with "Duck", but I was blocking the DPW garage so I was able to hobble it over to the salt barn. Manual steering on a 8,500 pound vehicle! That took me back to my childhood! Got the salt, was able to move the R1T up to an open area of the lot (errors still bleeping at me), took it out of SNOW mode and did a hard reboot (said it was saving the error logs). Everything cleared. Going to open a problem ticket to see what may have caused the problem.

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
Oh man, that sucks. I hope they can resolve things for you quickly.

Last year I watched this guy on YouTube driving around in an R1T pulling people out of ditches in the snow. It looked like so much fun.

P.S. I hope Rivian resolved the 12V battery issue in the R2. Seems like it’s a really common problem with the R1s.

I know that you said you would, but make sure you open a ticket so Rivian can go through the logs of what happened.

I read the subject and thought that you were implying that you were the lucky one who got a problem free Rivian and then I read the post and it seemed much more plausible.

There are lots of us that consider ourselves to be as close to that list as possible. Almost three years in, finally did my first full reset last week! (It fixed the small problem that I had).

The Mach-e had a 12V battery issue. I heard Hyundai BEVs also had 12V battery issues. I think Tesla figured it out years ago, and everyone else is still learning.

Probably Rivian will have it figured out with the R2. Probably.

I don't see a jack pot in any of this. Making it home would be just an ordinary day.

I had a “Service Suspension” indicator and a 53 MPH limit show up on the driver’s display in western Nebraska in the middle of a 3,900 mile road trip. A hard reset cleared the issue and that was six months ago with nothing more of it.

They replaced my 12v battery last August, so I don't think that would be the issue. I had every warning light go on and notification that none of the senors were functional along with an issue with the power steering. All of it cleared after the hard reboot. (Left steering wheel button and hazard button).

As I mentioned, I had put the truck in SNOW mode (roads are still covered here). 100% charge (in case we had a power outage during the storm). Noticed that the truck wanted to move on its own at an uphill stop (needed to hit the brakes), and the air suspension was high (wrote that off to SNOW mode).

Service ticket open; now if something other than the AI would respond.

Hope your story has a happy ending, and soon.

It's been well below zero F here in the Poconos each morning for the past several days, and we've also had something close to two feet of snow. Don't want to tempt fate, but so far, the R1T has been flawless, and I was very pleasantly surprised at it's capability in pretty deep snow. We're headed south to the Philly area later today, and I'm charging the Rivian to 85% for the first time in a while, since it was -13F this morning and only supposed to get to the low teens by the afternoon.

I found that the sensors can go out when snow is stuck to them. I've had times when even after wiping them clean they still don't work unless I reset the car, or just letting it sleep and wake up. Also remember you can call an actual person on Rivian roadside assistance, besides the AI on the app.

To get a human (who still has access to the AI information), @Rade, call (855) RIVIAN-5.

Thanks for being part of the Rivian community!

Unfortunately, the Hudson, NH SC verified a month ago that the replacement battery installed in October in order to comply with the recall, had at least one bad cell. The battery was putting out the proper voltage but the resistance was too high, and prompted a “Replace 12V battery“ alert. I don’t think ruling out a 12v battery problem solely due to it being fairly new is logical. Though — I’m not saying this was the cause of your system fault.
