I have a distant neighbour who built an extensive....thing using wood on his Chevy. I always wondered where all the wood would go in case of a minor crash, let alone a major one. While your's is much better, I still wonder the same thing.

If I see him in front of me, I would pull over immediately. I will try and get a picture tomorrow.

Are you saying you're worried the wood would fly dangerously in the case of a crash? I don't see it as a major concern, considering what the ladder being held would do...

Anyway, I think it's inspired and beautiful. Well done sir/mam.

I'm seriously in need of a bed liner. Any recommendations?
You're asking me? LOL. ? Coming from my old WT's, I'm used to a spray in liner. Get scuffed up? Just grab a rattle can and touch it up. But seems like this would be a lot harder on a Riv, with all the doors and hinges. I'm waiting for someone else to do it, first. Don't want to be a guinea pig.

In the meantime I'm using these:

https://evsportline.com/products/team-1ev-precision-fitment-bed-mat-for-rivian-r1t

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D38CPWW

The smaller one slides right under the bigger one when I'm not using it. I'm still able to lift the spare tire compartment with them both on top.

Edit - here's from another angle. And if Rivian ever releases a model with a proper-size bed, I'm going to be first in line for it, haha. ?

Yes. The G forces in a crash are crazy. That thing would go directly into the cab in a front end. In rear end, it would go through the windshield of the car crashing into the Rivian.
A quick query to chat GPT yielded this. I know infant car seats are tested to 60 g
"According to the HyperPhysics Project by Georgia State University, a 160 lb person wearing a seat belt and traveling at only 30 miles per hour experiences around 30 g’s of force in a front-end collision with a fixed object1."

I think that goes for anything you’re carrying. I’ve carried lumber on the crossbars on the bed before, and that’s way more dangerous as it’s right in line with drivers and passengers. Same goes for bikes and kayaks. And this rack is only for those rare trips. It’s mounted in my garage 99% of the time.
