I feel like navigation, especially traffic, might have improved with 2023.46, or maybe just in the past few weeks but not necessarily as part of the update. I know that they promised "improved ETA and route selection" as part of this update, maybe this includes better real-time traffic?

Yesterday I was on the road, and Rivian nav alerted me to an accident/traffic delay at almost the same time as Google Maps on my phone. Prior to this, Rivian nav would always be behind, sometimes waaaaay behind, and I would frequently find myself in a bad traffic delay as a result of trusting Rivian navigation. And because of this I always double check my routes with my phone before/during travel.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I haven't really tried since the latest update but it has gotten better since i've owned my truck a little over a year ago in general. That's one thing anyone who is honest and has had their Rivian a year or more cannot deny, Rivian has made steady incremental progress on improving their vehicles since beginning of production.

I haven't noticed any traffic improvements, but there WAS a roundabout it was allergic to (read: refused to acknowledge the existence of an active roadway) enroute to work, that suddenly is calculated and the recommended route (which it should've been all along). I've only complained to Rivian twice, and to a nice dude on these forums from ABRP about this, basically since I've owned the truck.

So...progress!

Mine still can't understand "Centreville, VA". I'll be in Tysons Corner (Northern Virginia) and say "Alexa, navigate to Walgreens, Centreville, VA" (about 20 miles away) and it tries to route me to one in Richmond (100+ miles away). Every single time. ??

It's possible the routing has improved (I have no opinion on that though), but the live traffic is still bonkers... And between the two of them, the live traffic should be easiest to get right, but it's often way off.

Once my EVsportline Smart Screen for Rivian arrives.. I doubt I will ever use the built-in nav again, I prefer Waze and Google maps.

We live a little north of Austin and it’s pretty bad for us. It tells us to avoid the same stretch of road, even if no one is on it even at 7am. It’s little a straight stretch of road and tell us to make a giant loop.

This morning it was the same, except it couldn’t quite understand where the car was, and thought it was on a different road, plus the navigation loop didn’t make sense even if we had taken it.

If they want to own the stack, that comes with responsibility for the errors, and yet somehow it’s not possible to deliver feedback to them at all. So we are stuck with a shitty onboard nav, no 3rd party option and no way to tell Rivian or their software vendor where it messes up.

Try leaving the state off
Worth a shot. I've wondered if it doesn't understand "Centreville" and is searching for "Centerville" (re not er). Sometimes it can't find anything in Centreville at all. Other times it can find places right next door or down the street from the Walgreens. Such a weird location to consistently have problems with. ?

You can actually see what Alexa heard in the voice history stuff in the Alexa app on your phone. Review Your Alexa Voice History - Amazon Customer Service

Interesting. I've done this with Google before but never Alexa. Thanks for the tip! As expected:

Rivian R1T R1S Do you think real-time onboard navigation has gotten better? 1702849037365

Now what to do with this information, I don't know. I did give it a "thumbs down" and submitted feedback, LOL! ?

Edit: Still surprising that it falls back to one so far away (when it can't understand the location). Not another Walgreens closer by. But #shrug ?

So it appears Alexa is the one playing dumb here, not the Rivian nav. I don’t use Alexa, but during my short experience find the nav and traffic to be pretty good.

Do you get the same result typing it directly into the interface? I wonder if the Nav is being dumb or Alexa is being dumb.

I‘m one of the anti-Alexa users largely because my eldest is named Alexa and that joke ran stale 5 years ago. (Alexa - turn on the stereo … said in the living room. Alexa - microwave my coffee … etc)

I'm no expert, but think in this particular case it's a little of both. Alexa being dumb for not knowing "Centreville, VA" vs "Centerville, VA", but also the nav being dumb - there are literally dozens of Walgreens in Northern Virginia. Why when it can't find "Centreville" does it fall back to one in Richmond (more than 100 miles away)?

Literally any other one would be better than that, LOL. ?
