Does cruise control on the R1T drive anyone else insane?

This. I also have a Mach-E with *non* "Blue Cruise" traffic-aware cruise control, and it's better than Driver+. It works on any road, it does lane centering and traffic-aware, and notably - it auto re-engages when conditions allow. If I break out of it to change lanes, it will reactivate lane centering as soon as it finds the new lane lines.

Driver+, if you break out of it to change lanes, you have to manually re-engage it.

You can't disable lane-centering without either "turn the steering wheel to break out" or completely disabling. There are times I want to disable lane centering but keep speed-and-following, but I *don't* want to yank the steering wheel to the side!

And this is comparing to Ford's *basic* cruise control. Blue Cruise (which is "premapped limited-access roads only") is even better on those premapped roads.

I just took a long drive in heavy rush hour freeway traffic in the rain at night, so I paid closer attention to some of the things reported here.

Now I can say for sure that my R1T DOES adjust the gap according to the speed. This was very noticeable - I kept the cruise on the whole time even as traffic speed varied up and down from about 5 mph to about 65 mph. The gap at 50 was three to four times as big as the gap at 25.

Am I alone? I just want to be able to turn this off.

not alone - the slow down/breaking mid-turn is horrible.

I filed a couple of “Software Requests” with Rivian a week ago or so to be able to turn this off + be able turn off radar/switch back to “old fashion” CC.

Hopefully Rivian will listen and have improved OTAs coming for this soon

So, while my car is at the service center. I was given a loaner from Enterprise (Nissan Sentra). It has ACC. It functions much better when approaching a car on the highway that is going slower than your set speed.

As soon as you turn on the signal to change lanes to pass, this little car starts accelerating back to your set speed - no lag at all. This is how most cars with ACC work that I have driven.

I think this should be a simple software adjustment so we don't start a pass and sit in the new lane at the reduced speed for ten or so seconds before the truck starts to slowly accelerate back up to the set speed.

People are forgetting that ACC is assist tool.
There is this right pedal that you can press that overrides the current acceleration curve or set point of the ACC. Release it when finished.
My old school 2014 BMW 550i had excellent ACC, and I would play that game with it. You can always help it along if it wasn't keeping up.

I haven't driven the R1t yet, so I don't know about the inappropriate breaking in a curve. But that does sound rather troubling.

The pause is much longer than in my other vehicles that have it - it's more like 15-20 seconds. So for many stop-and-go situations, I never have hit the accelerator. But longer ones, yes.

Agreed that the ACC leaves enough to be desired that I'd prefer normal CC at this point. Driving along in my lane with a sweeping slight right it slammed the brakes and dropped from 60-30mph from an oncoming car that was well within their lane. Thankfully nobody was behind me at the time.

Next day I think a bug landed on the camera and took out all ACC functions for the rest of the drive. (I get that makes sense but would have been nice to say it was just CC now instead of nothing)

I really don't understand how people can say they use acc in stop and go traffic. It leaves way too much of a gap between the car in front of you to make this feature usable in my area. You'll just constantly be cut off.

Now it is nice in 1 lane stop and go traffic like construction.

My only other complaint that hasn't been mentioned yet is the truck's inability to detect when a vehicle in front of you is turning. It throws up so many false "Break now!!!" Panic alerts.

Just completed my first road trip in my R1T from Houston to San Antonio (return). I used the Adaptive Cruise Control and generally like the way it performs. On my return trip I drove through some pretty heavy rain and got a red rectangle warning on the driver display that ACC was no longer working because the cameras were obscured (not the exact wording but hopefully you get the meaning). After thinking about the ACC and how it works, I changed the windshield wiper setting from automatic to the highest setting (storm) to see if keeping the windshield better cleared of rain water would allow the ACC to work. That solved the problem for me. I also adjusted the following distance setting to the maximum distance – just seemed like the safe thing to do. I had no more problem with the ACC functionality. After I got through the heavy rain I reset the windshield wipers to automatic and reduced my following distance.

On my Thanksgiving road trip between Houston and San Antonio, (I-10), there is a lot of construction, which means that the lanes wander around, lane markings are either absent or confusing (to driver and the R1T), and there are concrete barriers that violate the R1T's sense of minimum safe distance to an object in the adjacent lane. I kept fighting my R1T to cross old lane lines to follow construction mandated lane lines. I mitigated the annoyance by adjusting the lane departure alert timing but needed to completely disengage it to get rid of the annoyance. I'm not sharing this because I thought this was a problem. Rather, I'm sharing it so R1T drivers can avoid the frustration when diving thought heavy highway construction zones. When I got past the construction I reset everything and let the R1T help me be a safer driver.
