BMWs don’t even have turn signals
A widely held misconception.

Every BMW has turn signals.

It's just that there's no blinker fluid installed at the factory, and the dealers don't bother to tell their customers how to fill it on their own.

I assumed it was for profiling purposes?

It's things like this that make me thank the good Lord that I am ADHD instead of OCD. I pretty much go through life without being bothered by anything of this type. Blinkers? no problem; someone drumming their fingers on a table? in one ear and out the other; little kids making obnoxious noises? don't notice it.

(And, please let me be clear, for someone that is OCD, the discomfort and angst these things cause are very, very real with very real physiological impact.)

If I can’t make the blinker say “Booby traps” like Data from Goonies, I’m cancelling!!!

Seriously though my wife has complained about the sound and frequency of ever car/truck we have owned. ?

I have this weird quirk about locked doors, I never lock anything. The thought of being being inside of a car with the door locked is making me anxious. I will not be riding in my R1T with the doors locked this will be the first setting I turn off, if not configurable I will be defeating it electronically, mechanically or by any means necessary.
Rivian are you listening to my irrational situation?

Yeh, but in our defense, it's BMW's faulty User Interface that there's no blinker fluid dipstick. To check the blinker fluid level, you have to pour some in, drive for 30 miles with the 4 ways on, and drill down 17 menu levels in iDrive to see if it is full.

I'm impressed you can even check it 17 menu levels deep.

Both of my SUVs have no mechanism for a consumer to check transmission fluid level. Both require different service tools and one even requires a software subscription in addition to hardware to interface with the vehicle.

I was being facetious about the 17 levels:) , but serious in the sense that iDrive is not real intuitive, and it's a pain to find stuff. Getting to the vehicle detail info is 5 or 6 menu levels deep.

My joke about the blinker fluid dipstick is based on reality. My daughter's X1 has no oil dipstick. You can't check the oil manually. It just tells you "add a quart" when it decides it's time. She got that alert 2 weeks after getting an oil change. We were certain it did not leak, so WTH was actually going on? Can't check the dipstick, great. I connected my BMW specific OBD Scanner, and was able to read the oil level in mm. OK..... but what's normal? A bit of Googling determined it was full. Never figured out why it thought it needed a quart. If/when you do add oil, you have to drive it a while before the user display updates. My saying is that just because you *can* automate something doesn't mean you *should*.

Another door lock question: do we know if the doors lock automatically as you walk away from the vehicle? My current car has been doing that for the last 5 years and I just know I'll constantly forget to lock my next car if it doesn't do the same
I hope there are ways to control how quickly this happens. My Bolt locks before I can get around to open the door for my daughter sometimes. I also hope it automatically unlocks and presents the door handles as you approach. I don’t need to be reaching for key fobs in 2022...

Manual says it locks/unlocks based on proximity if you used your phone. If you use the card or wrist band you will have to tap it to the door, and the fob requires you to push the lock or unlock button.

That’s what I had read. I was hoping the thing about the fob was my misunderstanding. Seems like proximity should work with the fob too...

Was chatting with CS today, so I asked about this. Unfortunately only the phone as a key supports passive locking and unlocking. That is very unfortunate, but I suspect I will use my phone most of the time anyway.

Assuming the app works well this should be fine most of the time. It’s also a good check that you didn’t forget your phone I guess.

It seems that most cars now automatically lock the doors when you put the vehicle into drive and I hate it. It isn't the fact that the doors are locked, it is the noise that it the locks make that drives me nuts.

Has anyone who has gone on a test drive noticed how the door locks work? Do they make noise? I'm not talking about the chirp/horn broadcasting that the lock signal was received. Does the actual locking mechanism make a noise that you can hear inside the vehicle? And does it automatically engage when you put the vehicle in drive?

One of my favorite Tesla features is the fact that the door locks are absolutely silent because there are no moving parts. The "lock", it is just a software function; if the doors are locked the car just ignores input from the open door button.
If you’re bothered by the noise from the door locks you must flip out by the constant movement and sound of the windshield wipers. You make it sound like the door locks are engaging every 10 seconds. It’s only once when you drive off. ?
My friend is so bothered by his wipers that he sets the delay at the slowest setting he can set it on, no matter how hard it’s raining. It’s like someone in the back seat putting their hands over your eyes between each cycle of the wipers.
I’ll never drive as a passenger in his vehicle again When it’s raining. Had to change my shorts.

I don't get it. If you don't know the answer and don't care about the answer why do you feel the need to respond? Every time I get an alert that there is a new post in this thread I get excited that someone who has seen the vehicle in person may have answered my question.

But nope. It is just another person who believes that these vehicles are so poor quality that that the answer is surely unacceptable and yet at the same time is such a fanatic they are offended that someone would care about the specifics of how the vehicle works rather than having blind faith that it is worth $80,000.

The difference between a $20,000 Toyota and a $120,000 Mercedes is just 1000 little details. No one item is worth spending an extra $100,000, but But they add up to make a huge difference in the overall experience. How are people supposed to determine if there are enough of those little details to justify the $80,000 price when you can't see the vehicle in person without asking those who have?
