I'm still using the SunnyPilot that allows me to control Long by using the buttons on the UI. Do you know if I install the update will the UI buttons disappear?
Yes, you won't be able to use OP Long with the UI buttons in Sunnypilot master branches. The UI button forks are an evolutionary dead-end and Lukas won't be supporting/updating them anymore. He is keeping them up and available to download for anyone who wants to try them out.

And, they are still up on github if someone else wanted to fork them and maintain them.

I'm using the Rivian speed controls and although not perfect is fine for me.
You might want to try Sunnypilot. It has what is called MADS mode, where the Comma will still provide the steering when the cruise is disengaged, unlike openpilot that will disengage everything. I tend to use MADS probably 85-90% of the time. :I've gotten to where I engage the comma as soon as I hit 20mph and immediately turn off CC.

So... there's all these different flavors/repos available, is there a sheet or something that lists what they all do? And like what's supported?

Nope not really. Go with vanilla Sunnypilot and enjoy MADS.

Really, for Rivian, you really only have a few options.

Openpilot - this is the most vanilla basic option, but also the most stable across all vehicles . No speed control options from comma. All cruise control is handled by Rivian Adaptive Cruise, or manual cruise if towing.

Sunnypilot - this is currently the best supported for Rivian. Speed controls with blind spot monitors are included if you have the long adapter and automatically detected. Has MADS which allows you to disengage cruise and retain comma steering. This is great for city usage, roads with lots of stops, corners.

Xnor - these are no longer being supported, but the UI buttons version is available for those that want a taste of longitudinal control prior to adding the harness adapter.

Where you get into extra versions is the driving model space. There are quite a few different models available to try and they are selectable from within OP/Sunnypilot. Some are not tuned at all for Rivian, so you'll figure that out pretty quick. We've found that Rivians are all a little different in how they respond to controls based on R1S vs R1T(wheel base difference) and tires make the biggest difference.

Experimental mode is something to play with but is no where near ready for daily use- that's why it's ALPHA.

Thank you for the summation.

For the models, how to you select a different one, do you have to download each model separately? And can you have multiple models loaded and change it as you want?

It only take a few seconds to download a new model.

If you go to the settings tab on the comma while in of road, one of the options is Models. Select it and on the upper right is a Select button. Select that and a list will open up. Find one you want to load and select it and it will download it. Be patient. There is a progress thing in a subtle font below. Once it's done it will change what shows at the top.

The only thing I'd say is that, if you have the Long add-on harness from Lukas then vanilla Openpilot will do longitudinal contra. Conversely, without it, there will be no experimental mode in the main branch of either Open or Sunnypilot.

With the basic harness, Rivian ACC is used for longitudinal control, and you can use the scroll wheel. Blind spot cameras work fine.
How's your experience been with "basic" use and Rivian ACC, say running up on slow vehicles going 60+ at a distance? If you push it to the max 4/4 on ACC, does it catch it soon enough to slow down without slamming brakes?

Just FYI, geohot's official account posted on Reddit yesterday that they will ban anyone who does that. While I generally like George and the work he's done over the years, I really don't like the messaging on that post.

Jeeeesus. That does not sound like someone I want to have my GPS data. I'm just now realizing this device would be expanding the data sharing the vehicle already does. Back on the fence I go...

Rivian ACC will operate as it always has, it doesn't take any instruction from the Comma.

As for the other thing, they have a return policy. There was a bit to the conversation that led up to that. For an open source adas system, GPS data is crucial for it to keep learning. Rivian uses your data internally too, they all do. Heck, on Washington the police bought all your folks' data here recently.

Still shitty Rivian ACC. I'll be getting Lukas' harness to enamel Openpilot Long.

I agree with his sentiment. Sales of the 3x is how they fund their amazing contribution to this open source (free) project. I support his stance 100%.

Can you expand on the police buying data? Where did you read that? Did it come from Rivian or Comma?

Came from local news out of Seattle. They bought driving data that was collected by a third party from most brands of vehicles. They don't have personal data. However, the important thing that was mentioned is that they can see if certain vehicles are traveling the same roads at the same speeds frequently. So if you say have a stretch of road you go 100mph in frequently, they can see that and can sit and wait for you next time. That wasn't their goal to start though. The idea is that they can see for speed traffic patterns and patrol those areas harder to create safety zones.

Thanks for that. I really do not like that a third party can collect data from my vehicle. Seems like Rivian should be able to lock that so that only they can read our data. Smacks of Big Brother.
