Yes, but to be fair to all, it says:

"All cars in the Consumer Reports test were driven on the highway at a steady speed of around 70 mph until they ran totally out of charge and ground to halt."

Specifically, that is NOT THE SAME as the EPA range test which is the "advertised" range that all these companies use.

It's comparing apples to oranges. Makes no sense, so the only conclusion I can come to is that this is either an uninformed or biased (or both) article.

But that's sort of to be expected from a tabloid like the Daily Mail.

Fun to read but not really much value. Without detailed spec of parameters during testing as in outside temp, was battery warmed, what was the wind conditions, etc., no true conclusion can be drawn.

My example, we have a place that is 120 miles from us door to door that we travel to once or twice a month so the route is consistent. In our Model S we usually leave with 170 miles estimated range. Sometimes we get their with mid 40 miles left so we use 125 miles of range, sometimes less than 20 miles left so more than 150 miles of range used. Worst case, admittedly may have been using lead shoes into a head wind, actually had to stop for a little juice.

I used the Tesla above as it has made the trips many more times, but the R1S can have similar results, only difference here is I do not ever recall my Tesla using less than 120 miles of range for the drive. I did have the Rivian use 110 miles of range to cover the 120 miles once but I did use conserve on that drive.

looks the Rivian R1T 2022 did fine…
As a recent buyer last week, I'm thrilled that Rivian went 20miles more than EPA estimate at 70mph till empty.

I drive 60-80 highway all the time and while it's kind of a boring headline, if it drove 50 miles less I'd be kind of annoyed as that my driving reality.

The Daily Mail article links a Consumer Reports article where all the results come from. The testing methodology is clearly stated there. It's not perfect, but they try control most variables, including battery temp starting conditions, outside temp range and they drive on "clear days" (so maybe some control of weather related factors).

I'd like to see a test where all the vehicles sit overnight in a garage and drive the same route at the same time. It would be interesting to see what happens, but this would just be another data point to consider among various tests.
