Internal damage of the rear drive unit caused by an oil leak. Never saw any oil on the ground.

Was this the motor or the coupler in the rear? Is your R1T a quad with the water cooled (non-Rivian) motors or a dual with Rivian’s oil-cooled motors and auto connect/disconnect of the rear motor? Be good to know specifically for others with similar configurations.

So it was dry! The sound reminded me of my sister's old Lexus growing up that slowly leaked/burned oil... Until it was completely dry and knocking all over the place.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was oil slowly leaking on the inside of your underbody shield that just dried up and caked over time.
