Hi all, very happy owner of a 2026 Gen 2 R1S, 15,000 miles since delivery last September, coast to coast twice. I've noticed when I engage hands-free the eyeball tracker seems to be rather overzealous, often dinging and threatening when my eyes are most certainly on the road. Other times it barely seems to track at all. Granted, I have a slightly Marty Feldman eye split, so maybe it's picking the wrong eye to follow, but it is annoying as **** to have it dinging and harrassing me every 10-15 seconds on average. If this is normal, then I can't wait for the eyes-free upgrade. If it isn't, I still can't wait for the eyes-free upgrade but I'll take it to the service center in the meantime.

I was driving home yesterday and had my head on the headrest staring forward. The system told me to keep my eyes on the road. Like you have to blink every so often or look at side & rear view mirror. I guess they want an “alive” person to move around 🤷‍♂️

My eyes don't stay fixed on one point; I'm always scanning the horizon and looking in the mirrors; I categorically deny watching Red Sox losses on the iPad whilst engaged in active vehicle operations. It just bugs me that it believes I ain't payintenshun.

What about putting on sunglasses? I don't have autonomy+ any more but I seem to recall it being more forgiving when I was wearing sunglasses.

I'm not sure if this is a joke or not but I tried turning off the driver attention feature when the UHF trial ended, and without it enabled the car provides absolutely no form of cruise control. I was rather annoyed about this because it will bark at me any time I try to use the center screen for anything. It is way too sensitive.

The eye-tracking worked seamlessly well for me. It was always accurate, but I did find it too aggressive - a few seconds off the road to try to change the nav volume or see what my tire pressure were and I'd get an annoying warning on screen and chime.

After the Autonomy demo ended, I went back to the regular highways autosteer assist without hands-free, and find that it's a lot more convenient to keep a hand absently on the wheel and not get nagged when I try to do regular infotainment stuff. I also feel if I take my hands off the wheel for a few seconds, the nag isn't quite as aggressive either.

Yes, it’s definitely too aggressive. I’ve found the same thing including frequent bags when doing simple infotainment things for only a short period of time.

After my autonomy trial ended I did not feel at all compelled to subscribe. The regular lane keep for the highway is sufficient for me although it is a bummer my wife’s Mercedes GLC has better lane assist and automatic lane change compared to the Rivian.

Resting a finger on the steering wheel will stop the annoying reminders.

I suspect that the alertness monitor system relys more on the driver's head and body attitude rather than tracking eyeballs. After all, it has to work with sunglasses.
