Even worse than it being not automatic, like my GM vehicle, I have had it turn on the seat heater when hitting the button, when the temperature is above 100F.

seems like an easy thing to implement
I found this old thread while Googling how to enable this feature…only to find it doesn’t exist. WTH Rivian…our Acura from 10 years ago had automatic heated seats. Hell our *Kia* had automatic heated seats/steering wheel. My Tesla does too. How is this not a thing yet on the most expensive vehicle I’ve ever owned?
Maybe we should also berate Rivian for not having fart mode - that should be "an easy thing to implement" too ... I've had this in my Tesla for seven years already fer chrissake!

Seems like a relatively simple thing to implement. Would also be nice not to have to adjust the heated seat setting just to turn the heated steering wheel on or off.
"Alexa turn on the steering wheel heater"
See, hands free. Don't even need to take off your gloves.

Having voice control available isn't an excuse for an otherwise poor interface.

I’m driving in the winter with my temperature set and my seat heater on. I get out of the car to go into a store and come back 10 minutes later. The temperature comes on at its last setting but the seat heater is off. Having the seat heater on would be useful for me. Tesla Fart not so useful. 🤣

My seat will stay on in that scenario.

Tapping the picture of the steering the wheel in the climate screen is too confusing?

Just say what you mean - you won't accept anything less than an actual physical button for the steering wheel heater.

Did you not fully read my post? To tap the steering wheel icon you have to first tap the seat icon which changes the seat heater setting. So if the seat heater is not on and you want to turn the steering wheel heater off, that first tap set the seats to full blast, and then it's 3 more taps to turn it off.

As @VSG said, you can also tap the temp setting, which slides-up the full Heat/AC controls, and tap the steering wheel icon on/off there. This does not affect your seat heat setting.

Mine will return to the previous setting in that scenario as well. Not sure what the cutoff is (10 minutes? Maybe temperature dependent?).

Either way, I'm sure if they implemented these requests, people will come back here and complain that they had their seat heater on full blast in the morning on the way to work, and when they got into their car to go home, the temps were now 60 degrees, and they had to "triple tap" the seat heater to turn it off...

Why can't my car know what I want? It seems so easy...

Seriously, all this complaining is just "first world" problems. The fact that heated seats & steering wheels are commonplace is amazing, and should be appreciated. And don't even get me going on the fact that you can pre-heat both of those from your phone before you even step outside.

Spend a few minutes in near-zero temps holding your key over a lighter so you can stick it into the lock and hope it fixes the frozen lock. Only to be successful and realize you now need to sit on frozen seats w/ ski gloves on because the precious steering wheel is also at near-zero temps. Then maybe you'll develop an appreciation for how far we've come.

And yes, I realize I sound like a grumpy old man, but sometimes that is needed to inject a bit of reality into the situation.

That is only one way to turn on the heated steering wheel. I agree, that implementation is poor, but there are several other ways to do it. Use the actual climate screen and it won't affect the seat at all.

It's not complaining, it's a "feature request", as the title of the threads states, and this is just friendly discussion by a bunch of us nobodies which will likely lead to nowhere. But, it's a wish list for a feature that has been available on other lesser cars for many years.

Your initial post may have been a “feature request”, but read back through some of the responses. They certainly sound like complaints.

Hmm, not mine. Just left my truck for less than 5 minutes with the seat heater on and when I came back it was off. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere?

I don't think so, but I've had mine resume heating more than 30 min after I left it. It had been long enough I was genuinely surprised it was still on.
