It is real wood, it's just closer to a veneer than anything else.Remember, it's not real wood. I'd leave it be unless you're absolutely sure you know what you're doing

Yes you're right. It is real wood, it's just closer to a veneer than anything else.
I'm more curious how it's going to stand up to all the dust/dirt that will accumulate from running trails and how easy it will be to clean.I do agree that it's rough to the touch and feels a bit splintry but my hope is it lasts the test of time.
Just wipe it off. And if that does not work, some light sanding will probably fix it. ? (I’ve had too much to drink tonight)I'm more curious how it's going to stand up to all the dust/dirt that will accumulate from running trails and how easy it will be to clean.
The color he did is the exact color I wish OC would come with.Someone did this with his Tesla and shared his results here. The model 3/Y also has a wood dash that is a little rough as well.
Absolutely. Though that makes me wonder about applying a new veneer over whatever the subsurface is. I wonder if a vaccume press would do the trick. Maybe put on something exotic like burled or tiger maple. Or go crazy with some zebrawood..It is real wood, it's just closer to a veneer than anything else.

Agreed!!I wouldn’t sand it. Wax/sealant is a safer option. And reversible!
