I’m a long time Tesla Model S owner but I had my experience with an EA charger on Saturday.

We stopped by the EA chargers at the Walmart in Vinita, OK just off I44. We didn’t really need to stop but it was on our way home, we needed some lunch anyway, and it seemed like a good opportunity to try out EA for the first time.

First charger we pulled up to was unavailable. Moved over to another 350KW charger, plugged in and the screen said “This session is free courtesy of Electrify America.” Has anyone else seen this before?

I've had free charging sessions at EA, usually it has been at stations that are set for new charging cabinets or operating below normal performance. Most sessions at those stations were 70-90kw on a 150 or 350kw charger.

Ok that makes sense. I was at about 85% SOC and drawing 50KW+. In our S we would have been lucky to draw 25KW at that SOC so I thought it was great. Appreciate the education.

I did the same as you and tried out a bunch of EA chargers when I first got my R1T, just to make sure I had the apps set up and everything was working right, and to get some feel of how long charging would take. I always charge at home, so don't really need to use EA yet, but I want to be prepared for when I do need to use EA.

For my first month of R1T ownership, I didn't pay for a single one of my EA sessions. I also didn't get the full rate of charge either - usually only ~100kW on a 150kW charger. My assumption is that they were comping the charge because they knew the chargers weren't delivering as expected. IMO that is very generous of them. I would have been happy with just a discount.
