Ok so I enjoy taking my rigs off road. I just got the R1S and am excited to take it but need wheels and tires. I searched everywhere for forged (to save a little weight and for strength) wheels that look good. I think the ones EVsportline just released are the ones I am getting. What do you guys think?

so the bigger question is… how big of tires? I want 35” but idk if it will work and not rip the fenders up when it goes down. I prefer the KO2 cause that’s what I have On my other rig. Anyone try to do 35” safely?

There are several threads scattered around the forums of people trying different tires. From what I recall even going up to 34" causes some rubbing at lowest height settings. I don't think there's any chance you can do 35" tires without causing damage.

Shoot. Thanks man. So 34”. But how wide can I go? 295? 285? 60/20

wonder if anyone is gonna build fender flares and cut into the fender to accommodate larger wheels lol

No, those are not R18, they're R20. You can't put 18" wheels on a Rivian.

Correct they're BFG KO2 tires 285/65R20 on Raceline wheels are 20x9" +18 offset. Raceline is also willing to make a beadlock set but I wasn't going to commit to that until I've done a full test on tire sizing since its significantly more expensive (but still less than those EVS ones).

Wheels: PN 950B-29055+18, 950B Gauge – Raceline Wheels, $375/wheel after tax & shipping
Tires: Bf Goodrich All-terrain T/a Ko2 - LT285/65R20E | Big Brand Tire & Service, $456/tire after tax & shipping
Beadlock option: RT260M Avenger Beadlock – Raceline Wheels (custom pricing)

Sorry I don't have more pictures or a full test posted yet, the truck is at the shop getting ceramic coated and front PPF installed.

That said, they measured at a hair under 35", and are just kissing the fender liners at low ride height under normal driving. To be determined how much rubbing under offroad conditions. My baseline for capability comparison is my 2019 Colorado ZR2 Bison, which is no slouch offroad, so more to details come soon, when I get my truck back!

Ask Raceline for their beadlock rims.

This one, that one and the other one.

The stock 20" tires are 34". 21" and 22" wheels have 33" tires. I personally changed my stock 34" tires on the 20" wheels down a size to 33" (275/60/20 instead of 267/65/20).

I guess it's just my personal taste, but I feel the 34" tires are too big proportionately to the truck. The 33" tires fit much better in my opinion. A 35 inch tire, in my own opinion, nothing personal, would start looking cartoonish, leaving little room in the fender wells.

As far as rubbing, all depends on the offset of the wheels. If they have an offset that matches the stock wheels, then 34's are fine. 35's would definitely hit the inner fender liners and may work them loose, but shouldn't cause any damage to the fender itself. If the wheels have more offset than stock (lower offset number means more actual offset), then you have to worry about hitting the fenders themselves. Here's a link to my experiment with tire and wheel sizes. Pretty detailed.

www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/updated-new-custom-wheels-tires-20x9-18mm-offset-with-275-60-20-pirellis-33-no-rubbing.6685/

UPDATE: I just looked up the specs on EV1's wheels. They have a 38mm offset, so just 10 more than stock, meaning the tires will be pushed 10mm closer to the outer edge of the fender (0.39 inch). "Probably" safe with those wheels and 34" tires all around. Per my thread noted above, my wheels were 18mm offset, so I pushed them out nearly 1.2 inches, which is right at the point where issues with rubbing the fenders comes into play. With the 33" tires, I'm good, no rubbing. The 34" tires, were pushing my luck. That aside from the fact that I personally think the 33" tires are a better fit, proportionately, to the truck.

^Totally valid opinions, but I'm not entirely doing this for looks. It's about finding the largest tire that fits on the truck without tearing it up.

Maximizing tire size has a few offroad benefits:
- Larger diameter tire increases ground clearance.
- More sidewall and tire width means larger contact patch, especially when aired down.
- More sidewall reduces risk of punctures, especially when aired down.

There are downsides for sure but this is an experiment. I'd go to 37s if I could, but the charging door I don't think will allow it!

Metric K02s tend to be more true-to-size than the flotation variants (eg a 35x12.50). Excited to see someone pushing on what’s possible.

We've done a ton of work on fitment specs - what fits, what doesn't, what will rub, what will not, what tires are available and proper load rating for Rivian. Happy tp help you out, coaching you on your build - regardless of who's wheels you choose. It is the wheel offset that makes most aftermarket wheels a problem / rubbing. PM me any time. In the mean time, here is a review of factory wheel fitments: https://evsportline.com/blogs/rivian-r1t-and-r1s-tech-info/rivian-r1t-r1s-wheel-guide

You can absolutely get a metric equivalent of a 35" tire in there (285), but there will always be a rubbing issue on full rake on low settings, especially on a compression bump of any kind even at moderate turn-in.

When I built the original forged alternative for the R1T with Variant Wheels, I was happy with the OEM tires. I've since got the OEM fitment in Cooper AT3's and love those tires on the R1T, which are 34's. The beefier lugs on the tires do get some rubbing on lowest setting and low on hard dips at speed. I think an 8" wide wheel with the correct design (we did all the very first true measurements on fitment for the R1T aftermarket), would be a better alternative for a 285 or 35" tire.
