Between Kyle from OutOfSpec and a few others it's become clear that a select few lucky folks were able to fulfill their Adventure reservations with Launch Editions. This wouldn't be an issue had they been required to pay the difference in pricing benefits granted to the Launch Edition, but it appears they did in fact get the upgrades for free (free power tonneau, wheel upgrade, and bracelet key).

I've been chatting with my guide about it. He said it was only a handful of people and it's NEVER happening again. R1 shop invites allegedly will only show LE if you have an LE reservation. The handful which were issued were managed directly through guides who were looking out for their buyers.

As someone who's paying the new pricing I'm not exactly thrilled to hear this. Had I known this was an option I would have waited for an LE truck with 22" wheels and saved $5,500. I'm scheduled for delivery on Tuesday. I know many would like to be in my position, but this revelation is just another knock against Rivian's inconsistent customer experience.

Contact your guide and tell them you want to switch to a launch edition? Also this order was placed 3 months ago and you're complaining... why?

Rivian is obviously favoring “new pricing“ reservations over ”pre-price increase” reservations. More money in the corporate coffers. Rivian is all over the map with R1T deliveries.

I did tell him that, but he said it’s no longer allowed. The real issue is that this was not presented as an option. I would much prefer $5,500 in upgrades/savings over getting my truck next week.

Have done this 5 times. I have contacted CS over and over attempting to get switched into a launch edition. Have an April 2019 preorder. Originally wanted max pack so didn’t order a launch edition. Got hosed when max pack delayed indefinitely and wasn’t given an option to order a launch. To find out that people who preorder years after me have been given that option is just infuriating.

There is more to this story. See the thread here.

The OP has an LE pre-order as well as the Adventure (post price increase) pre-order and already had a guide assigned from the LE pre-order. For some reason, the OP chose to switch the LE reservation to an R1S with OC (and the Adventure order to an R1T from an R1S), but now apparently wants both reservations to be LEs.

The OP leaves out this important background information here, which makes this all a bit misleading.

Customer service can’t get you an R1T pin, let alone an R1T LE.

To clarify, I was offered a vehicle that was the exact same as my original configuration, but LE.
The only upgrade I received was the included tonneau saving me $1500 I think.

I was not permitted to change the tires from the 21” rd, and it was made clear to me that this was a serendipitous offer because I happened to have been recently assigned a guide, we kind of hit things off, and he had happened to remember my config, when an orphaned vehicle popped up— to say nothing of the fact I was in the sweet spot of being in the last couple weeks of the end of quarter delivery push.

Had Rivian assigned that vehicle to someone else with an LE order, they’d probably would have needed to move it elsewhere and ate the $1500 anyways in logistics and time.

Nothing misleading about what I posted. The fact I have another LE reservation is irrelevant to the Adventure -> Launch Edition upgrade.

The benefit is different depending on the preorder date and config. Someone like Kyle who ordered after the price hike would have received a free $3k tonneau cover and free $2.5k 22” wheel upgrade.

Speak for yourself. I know some of you are just fine with paying more to get your truck sooner. Between the two I prefer saving money.

Kyle paid the new prices though...

And he's an influencer so of course they're going to prioritize the order. I don't blame them. Free remarketing. He's not a general commercial buyer.

The new pricing structure, but from what I’m hearing that does not mean he paid for the upgrades included in LE. At the new pricing an LE with power tonneau and 22” wheels is $85k. An Adventure with quad motor/large pack, power tonneau, and 22” wheels is $90,500.

Yeah, that was partially convenience for Rivian, and may have also been an undocumented write off by the marketing department. In either case, it's more than a pre price increase le.

Rivian has a track record of acting without speaking from social media happenings.
