Maybe but then it would just be easier to pay manufacturers directly (or to tax them for every ICE they build).

That wouldn’t make a ton of sense though because if the car is a dog and nobody wants it, the govt is paying manufacturers to build garbage…

The manufacturers obviously benefit from the consumer incentives but they still have to build marketable cars.

If we want to get to 50% EV by 2030, need a more Norway-like approach. These little $5-10K incentives aren’t moving the needle fast enough. Sadly, none of those moves (no sales tax on EVs, free tolls, free parking, etc) are politically viable here. Oh and oil is dirt cheap.
If you’re waiting for congress to pursue something that makes sense, my advice to you is, pray.

No MSRP listed, but I assume total vehicle price is equivalent to MSRP. This employee doesn’t have to worry though. He gets the $7,500 tax credit since his truck is delivered before 01/01/2022.

Assuming it becomes law, it’s going to be interesting to see how this plays out with Rivian and Ford., The $74000 price cutoff will impact Rivian’s marketing, but how? Will they make more options available as aftermarket add ons? Will they lower the price of the Adventure Pkg? Ford‘s Lightning pricing survey indicates that the Lariat trim, with the extended battery, will cost ~$74500. I highly suspect Ford is going to lower prices to get the Lariat under that price point.

I’m also curious to see if Rivian considers actually asking their workers to organize. Illinois isn’t exactly an anti-union state.

Once again, the bill is all about reducing EV adoption. It's driven by basically the GOP aligned branch of the Democratic party. F them
Once again the incompetent administration needs to be removed.

Don’t worry you will have your chance to remove them in 2022/2024. That’s how representative democracies work in the same way that the majority of the country thought the last administration was incompetent in 2020.

Yeah I’m sure replacing an administration will help. As long as the Decision makers are more influenced by lobbyists and not what’s best for the country and planet - we‘re going no where.

Yep, this has been a serious bummer since this report came out yesterday.

No way around it, a $100,000 means test would be devastating to Rivian.

Especailly brutal if they’re not even able to utilize their 200,000 credits under the current law.
I guess I’ll pay myself $99,999 this year. Not sure I can but I’ll waste an hour thinking how I could structure it.
