I currently have a front hitch on our F250. It’s super convenient for things like taking bikes on the hitch mount bike rack, while towing a trailer. I have also used it to help get the boat trailer into tight spaces with much better visibility.

However, I’ve not seen any discussion if there will be enough structure on the frame to support an after market front hitch. Seems like there should be since we already have tow hooks. I’ve looked at the usual suspects like etrailer to see if anything is showing up but nothing.

There are a few other reasons I could see a front hitch could be useful. Snow plowing. After market winch (If power could be provided) or one of those storage platforms if needed.

Do any of you think there is a chance we’ll see something like that in the future?

I'm not recommending anything, but I'm sure those front tow hooks are bolted to something pretty beefy.

Would have to be DIY. There is definitely enough structure up front but I don't think anyone makes anything.

You might be able to just use one of those bolt-on types around the crash bar for lighter loads.

Maybe Curt or Draw-Tite will take some measurements. And I can get the prototype as payment :CWL:

Snow plowing.
The R1T cannot handle even a small snow plow as per Rivian (after several attempts to get an answer from them). Due to the design it can't handle the weight and forces of plowing. While just because Rivian says it can't/shouldn't be done doesn't mean someone won't.

I would be careful with anything you attach to the front.

I am interested in this as well for a small residential non-hydraulic plow I currently have on an old Tacoma for our steep driveway. I hope an option comes up for this.

this review says plow cannot be supported: The $73,000 Electric Rivian R1T Is Cute, But It’s Not a Work Truck

My communications with Rivian confirm this... but of course a motivated person can probably find a way but Rivian says it is not spec.

Perhaps plan for a Lordstown truck...

i certainly understand it is not designed for, or recommended to, but I think for my use case it should not be a problem. Anyway, we will be sticking with the Tacoma for now but would be nice to have the option.

I have front curt hitches on both my 3/4 ton Chevys. Very handy. But I doubt we'll ever see the production volume necessary for anyone to make one for a Rivian. Snowsport HD plow would be excellent for the R1T front mounted. I have one and it's great for someone who doesn't plow for a living. Don't think I'll use it rear mounted on the R1T.

It seems like there could be some level of spec that could be used safely, I'm not asking for 1000/10000 front hitch capacity. Even 500/5000 could be useful.

Do the Fords and the Chevies of the world release an official front hitch spec?
