Heyo fellow Rivian owners! Ain't heard anything useful from Rivian in a while about my frunk issue, and curious if anyone else has ran into this issue. I've only found one thread about the issue and it apparently is a misalignment in their case ( https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/weird-frunk-lid-behavior.7390/ ). Although mine goes a step further that OP in that thread. This issue showed up after only owning it for 48hrs.

Whenever I open my frunk, it automatically lifts just fine, but once it reaches peak it droops down to just below halfway open. I can manually manipulate it, but it'll always droop back to the same spot. It sounds & feels like the gas struts are shot. If I press the button to auto-close, it'll fail of course. It used to close and then fail & shoot back up. It closes just fine manually. I push it down & the latch catches to get pulled in the rest of the way. It doesn't seem like it's a misalignment. Everything looks like it lines up, and - like I mentioned earlier - it sounds like it's a gas strut issue.

Not sure if anyone has any insight, but least I can do is post this for anyone else in the future who gets this same problem haha.

Exact same issue! I just took delivery and about 48 hrs later the exact thing you mentioned happened. Must be some sort of sensor issue but wondering how you resolved it? I have a service ticket out but haven't heard back as I sent it last night.

I had to schedule a maintenance appointment WAY out in advance because the National Capital Region is swamped, I guess. Booked it shortly after posting and it's for October 31st. So a couple months of waiting. I had to call a rep to figure out why I didn't hear back for a week, then they helped schedule that appointment.

The issue ain't with a sensor, atleast not for me. It sounds and feels like the gas struts are just shot/no worky.

Ok, thanks for the info. I just received a message and service will be calling me this afternoon. We'll compare notes.

We have this same issue. It’s frustrating as the vehicle has 1400 miles on it and my wife used it the other day and it opened all the way then lowered itself onto her head. About half way and stopped before hitting her. So annoying. This is one of many issues with this vehicle. Still no gps, no internet too, stuck on old update. Tried reset with left most steering button and hazard… nothing… tried software reset with left most and right most button on steering and nothing. Still have not been updated, it’s 2023.14.0 and know many updates have come out since.
Need to have revian fix this, maybe we can enjoy the r1t if fixed. We replace the 21” wheels with 22” and those need to be updated in software somehow too.

other issues is it missing the power tonneau and was told not to worry as I could get it added once the issues are fixed. And understand a week ago they mentioned the fix was made but maybe have to wait a couple months to get it.

last gripe is not sure if the truck is just noisy electric motors or it has some piped in noise in the interior for speed… our other i4 m50’s we have are dead silent motors in comparison. Was shocked how noisy the r1t is. It is fast though!

sorry for rambling. But the frunk issue is same and good to know it’s not just us with an r1t with issues. We want to love this truck, but first impressions are not good

Forgot to update this. Took my R1T to the new Gaithersburg Service Center 31OCT. Picked it up 08NOV all good to go. Turns out the problem was in the hinge part itself. It's so refreshing having that work as intended after waiting these couple of months.

Good to know! I don’t know the actual reason of what is going on with our r1t yet.
But do know they replaced the hinges and had to repaint the new ones.
not sure if the hydraulic struts or electric hydraulic whatever struts are to blame. As one popped off the hinge!!! It was used just a couple times before issues started!
It’s been in service several weeks now. And looking forward to having it fixed!!!
Seems this hinge issues is common but think maybe it’s for some r1t’s made around same time.
